Border declined to comment but indicated the court minutes reflected his actions. The minutes showed he found Stowers' "nonverbal gestures and outbursts to be disruptive and improper regardless of content."
Court minutes said Border later dropped the charge because he realized Stowers' trial lawyer, Deputy Public Defender Carmel Kwock, did not have time to tell Stowers the judge had ordered both sides not to show emotion when the verdict was announced.
(non-verbal gestures of thanks to God.)

Thanking Jesus. That's always a good thing. Cannot hurt. Take a good look at how you wrote your question. "Thanking Jesus in Court Lands Man in Jail." I'm not sure I really get it, though trying. You can thank Jesus everyday, every minute. For those who don't believe you can just admire.

No, I don't think it is stupid. A lot of people spent time and effort on that man's behalf. He should have been thanking his lawyer and the judge and the jury. I don't think he respectfully said it under his breath either - I think it was a big shout out that was not respectful of the sanctity of a court of law, in the judge's opinion.
Last time I looked, seperation of Church and State was a crucial part of what makes America great - and I am sure that man knows that. Religion belongs in our heart, our homes and our churches and no where else.
Peace!

The contempt of court charge has nothing to do with Jesus or religion. It is based solely on his having made an outburst ... that is all. Had he committed the same action but chosen to thank his mother he'd have received the same.

No its not what he said , It is that he stood up in court and spoke when he wasnt allowed to. It can be a pretty tense situation when verdicts are read, and the judge usually tells the court to remain quite, and attorneys advise their clients to stay seated and keep their mouths shut.
Its NOT a baseball game.

I saw that a couple days ago. I thought it was really stupid too. I am not Christian but I think you should be able to thank whomever you would like at a time like that and not have to worry about put in jail.

Yes, I agree. It seems like the only people who have the right to free speech any more are the ones who are against Jesus.

Not always. And if you look at the seal over the judges bench it reads "In God We Trust"

that is extremely ridiculous its OK for atheist to throw fits and say whatever they want and it doesn't matter if it offends anybody else but as soon as a christian says something then people act like the world is falling on their heads
