Why do some people watch TV instead of getting involved in real life?
It's all in the marketing and the entertainment factor. There are millions of people out there 'selling' the Bible every day. If they had a 'swoosh', you would see it everywhere.
Easier to praise something that has that much advertising behind it than to criticize it or convince people to turn to alternatives.
Try going to a Harley convention on a Yamaha. Brand significance and product placement.

Because they believe that the bible was dropped down by God (and then transcribed) and that classical literature was written by men.
To me, it's all fiction and all equally viable as such. The bible hasn't been a complete work ever. There were books dropped for being too overt, books dropped for being contradictary, books that weren't even included because they were never found. For someone to base their absolute faith in that is absurd to me... but by the same token, if it weren't Christianity, it would be something else. People seem to need to believe in something bigger than they are, but seperate from what lies right here on this planet. :\

i think that, as a former Christian, i'm in a unqiue position to answer this. i grew up Southern Baptist, n have since moved on to Wicca. when i was a Christian, my parents encouraged me to explore all the classics. i was never told what to read, n what not to, thus, i got the opportunity to read many a classic, both secular and religious in nature. i think that there r many who would say that one of the greatest gifts God gave His Creation of Humanity is the ability to be creative, and to 'think outside the box', as it were. it's just been in the recent centuries that we as a people have really felt secure enough in our seperation of church/state to really critique all the stuff in and outside of the Bible. so i don't think it's so much ppl ignoring classical literature as it is that we are starting to realize we *can* read something other than the Bible.

Perhaps because they recognize the Bible as the Word of God, and therefore distinct from ancient writings of humans.
I've seen the other side of this too. I've seen anti-Christians (not just non-Christians) belittle Christians who love a book written two millennia ago, but these same anti-Christains praise other ancient writings. Interesting irony, eh?

Because they aren't intelligent enough to comprehend and digest classical literature. Technically they can't with regard to the Bible either, but they listen to what others say it means and go with the flow.

Some people don't like to think, so the Bible is great for them, because they can take the word of some dead dudes and then they don't have to think.
