Why if your so sure theres a paradise afterlife, why are people so afraid of dying? I was watching a show about a plane thats engines blew out and everyone on board was screaming and all that commotion and they were acting like theres no after life and they couldnt accept it. Why didnt all of them who believe in a paradise after life remain calm during the planes fall into the ocean? What were they all so worried about? Was it that they werent going to see there family again? No, because according to them they'll see them again on the other side for an eternity. Is it because they were afraid of the pain? No because if you die in a plane crash its an instant death and according to them in the after life there is no suffering. So why were they so worried and acting so crazy about that they were about to crash? Its because that when the time comes, they were doubting if theres an after life or not and anyone who says they dont doubt there is one is a liar

There is not one single answer that will suffice for each individual. Some were probably unsure. That would be a very scary thing for anybody who was not sure. Some were probably very sure and that may have been even more terrifying. Others could know that there is an afterlife but still love the people they are leaving behind. They could be worried about whether or nor their loved ones will be okay. I worry about my kids, when I'm just going out of town. And some, would I'm sure be frightened of the pain of the plane crash. You are mistaken that there is no pain involved with dying in a plane crash. That may be the case in some cases. But there are many more crashed in which some people live. Do you think that in those cases some lived and the ones that died all must have died instantly? Even if everybody did die instantly, they would not have known that it would be instant. The thought of suffering is sufficient reason for fear.

Most of us are afraid of what we don't know. How often do you get to go beyond the death of your body and come back to tell yourself? I'm not christian and haven't been for well over 12 years. I never fit there. I have studied religions and mythology since 2nd grade. If the archangel Gabriel creates the dip on your top lip to tell you to keep the secrets of the universe at your birth, (the shhhh hand jesture), then our soul won't be worried. Maybe it is just our waking mind that causes the fear. P.S. Is religion the only place you want to ask these questions? May be philosophy would be another palce to look. I know you are angry. It is okay to be angry. To deny your feelings will only make them fester and cause much more damage.

Because we aren't REALLY sure. It's as simple as that. Are you sure there is/isn't? There's no way of knowing. It scares the hell outta me, but I have to accept it's inevitable. And it could happen to me at any time. So I try to appreciate what I do have, and try to accept that I may never have what I don't. I let those who I care about know it now and then, and I think that if I die tomorrow, everyone will know I loved them. And that's how I get by.

Sounds like you already have the answer. But I think it's because they never truly, deeply believed. They may say they do, but in reality, they're just accepting of a spiritual take on reality -- they don't really feel it.

O'Hare, are you getting these cheesy pseudological questions out of a book tonight or something? They all seem to have the same sophomoric level of authority.

Peace

They are scared of the pain of dying, not the life afterward.

Fear of pain, not fear of after death.
