This is a question that can not be answered logically.

First let me start by quoting Martin S.:

" God cannot do anything that is by definition impossible"

The Bible clearly refutes this statement when Christ tells His disciples that "nothing is impossible with God". The angel GAbriel tells teh virgin MAry the same in reverse, when he says "All things are possible for God"
Since God is almighty (omnipotent), and NOTHING is impossible for him, the question remains on the table: Can God create a rock so heavy that He could not lift it?
Lots of interesting answers here----a few that are on the money. I would only add this: God cannot do anything that violates His person , Nature, or Chararcter. Since God has all ability and power, of course He can "lift" and object, no matter the mass or density. However, He cannot contradict His own being, and an object that is too heavy for Him to move cannot exist.

Or can it?

Jesus is the God Man, 100% God and 100% man. While on the earth, He was the God Man, and yet He experienced limitations. He grew tired, he got hungry, he bled. Was Jesus essentially God while on the Earth? Of course. Yet as God He deliberately limited Himself. We know that the Logos (Christ before He incarnated) created ALL things. If Christ then created the mountains, and then Christ incarnated as a man and yet remained fully God----could Christ lift mount Arat? How about the Mount of Olives? Were there ANY objects that were to great for Christ to move while in His human form? OF COURSE.

so....

It IS possible for God to create a rock so heavy that He can't lift it.......from a certain point of view.

Well, finally, a question that can be answered Logically.

God exists OUTSIDE this Universe in Heaven. Since God created Himself outside of Heaven, even BEFORE there was a Heaven, by simply "willing himself to be" he is the "I AM" or the "I AM THAT I AM" OR "I AM THAT I MADE MYSELF TO BE" GOD. I AM denotes all three of these things. It is also called the Tetragrammaton in Hebrew. So, God wills Himself into Being, he then creates his only begotton Son "who then creates EVERYTHING ELSE" in Heaven and Earth, INCLUDING THE ANGELS. This IS WHY HE IS CALLED GOD'S ONLY BEGOTTEN SON. God only created himself and christ. Christ, as God's Architect created everything else FOR God, this is also why Christs SACRIFICE was so SAD AND HURTFUL TO GOD. The "ONLY" thing he created died, was "DESTROYED and out of existance" for 3 days JUST FOR US!

So God lives outside the Universe and is not affected by its rules. He can then do anything he wants inside IT. Since it is "finite" to his infiniteness. Even if he filled the entire universe with ONE SINGLE ROCK, he could still lift our universe because he exists outside of IT. So yes, he could lift it.

God cannot do anything that is by definition impossible. For instance He cannot create parallel lines that cross one another because then they wouldn't be parallel lines. He cannot create a square circle because then it wouldn't be a circle. He cannot create an object so heavy that He could not lift it because then He wouldn't be God almighty.
