So we will CHOOSE to love and follow HIM.. What's the fun in MAKING us love HIM? That'sa no good! The beauty is in making a choice to love and obey.

If he didn't, we would simply be puppets and God would be pulling the strings. Instead he allows us seemingly limitless choices and the catch is that we have to learn which are the best choices to make and also that there are consequences we must accept for any choice that we make. (And, to borrow a song from Rush, "if you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice).
I think that this philosophy influences, to a degree, the philosophy of freedom in political arenas as well. Again, the catch is the more freedom one has, the more responsibilities ones has. Unfortunately, few understand that or, if they do, want to accept that; apparently freedom means also being free of any responsibility. Which is sad, because if one can't be responsible for one's self, then one likely needs a puppeteer who will pull the strings.

If we were not aware of the chasm between good and evil, how could we understand the direction we were meant to move in? Should we go towards good things, or bad things? If we don't think about this choice, we will spend our lives possible in a meaningless way.
Of course, not everything is a choice of good or bad, but if you have faith, you know that you will be judged not by the clothes you wore, but by the decisions you made, and how they effected you, and the other people around you. You won't be judged on things you did unknowingly, but only by your intention. This puts all of humanity on a level playing field. Those who have more knowledge are held to a higher standard than those who don't.
Anyhow, the upshot is that if God wanted us to be slaves to him, he would have made us angels, who obey God's will. But a human who chooses to follow God earns His love, and because he/she uses free will, will be put above the angels.
Remember, nobody's perfect.

In answering this question, we have to understand what is meant by the term "sin". For most religious people in today's society, the term "sin" refers to doing something that is considered morally wrong, or against the Ten Commandments, or some other such standard. However "sin" in the classical sense, as understood by the early Christians, was something else - not a moral infraction that led to guilt and punishment, but the condition of being "away from the mark". In other words, sin is being "not God-like". God created man in His own image and with the potential to attain to His likeness - this is where free will comes in. Man, by his free will, can attain to the likeness of God and be in eternal communion with Him, or can turn away from God and "miss the mark", being in a state of eternal death. Why did God give mankind this choice? It is the choice of whether to love or not - and what lover wants their beloved to respond to them by force? God gives us the free choice to love Him as He loves us, or not - because if we did not have the choice, we could not love Him. And as we are told, He is a God who is jealous for our affection - He wants us to love Him, as He loves us.
I hope this makes sense to you...the point being that, rather than make us robots or automatons, God gave us the capability to love Him and to attain to His likeness of our own free will, so that we could indeed be worthy of His love.

When you make up a story about a Being, you can make up any rules that you want.
God is a name given by men to the forces that they don't understand.
Every story- WITHOUT EXCEPTION- about God is made up by men. Many of these men believed that they were inspired by a force greater than themselves, which they chose to call God or Allah or whatever other name they chose at the time.
Many of these stories contain rules for living, which absolutely help humans live together in peace, or just live at all.
Kosher laws, for example were written when improperly slaughtered animals could cause illness or death. Following those laws kept people alive.
Other rules, when followed by large groups of people have had their benefits -thou shalt not commit murder- is a good example.
So sin, in all of it's various forms is based upon rules which humans made up to help them -by social pressure- live with others. It has worked well for centuries.

But free will doesn't always mean sin. We have a choice not to sin. He gave us free will because He loves us. If someone forced you to love them, it wouldn't be real love would it?

thats too logical of a question and you can't use logic if you choose to believe in god. Think on that one for yourself with a open mind and no fear and you will find the answer.
to zenhighway: Since I can't resond your question to me via email, hopefully you will see this.
I only meant to get the person to think for him on the issue, I too was a believer in god from birth, but I since allowed myself to question the existence of a god and have discovered all I need to know about the true nature of reality & beyond. Didn't mean to offend anyone, that is ones choice and experience to believe in whatever one chooses. Good luck to you and enjoy your human experiences whatever they maybe .

God created us for his pleasure and loved us so much that he gave us free will so we could make up our own minds to either worship and follow Him or turn away from Him. He didn't want us to be robots that had to love Him.

Because man has invented sin, not God. God wants us to have free will. We are here to experience life, nothing is sinful.

Because God (you must be Jewish, you didn't spell the whole name) create man in his own image, therefore if God has free will so does man. God, after all these years knows better. Man, on the other hand, didn't!

because it shows how much he loves you.. when he gives you free will, that means he loves you so much he actually lets you turn your back to him.. he doesn't want you to make that choice, but how much of a God would he be if he forced us all to never sin... what would we learn from life anyway... well God bless!!!
