I'd like to say I just make up my mind not to do it, but in a way you're right, sometimes it's "uncontrollable" OK we all know that we CAN control our own behavior but whether or not we choose to at the moment is another thing. I kind of have to get to a point where I can't stand to be in my own skin when I finally make a change. It's really one day at at time. You just have to make up your mind, this fat body I'm living in right now is not the real me, then go out and DO something. I mean something more active than what you're doing now, even if it's just walking or doing chores around the house or yard. You'll get so busy you won't think about the eating. Eventually as you change your lifestyle the weight will come off... better if it's gradaually. DO NOT DIET. It might be a nice temporary fix but it won't stay off. Just try to eat sensibly most days, give up some of the fattening stuff and importantly be active and interested in life. The more you obsess about it the worse it will be.
Good luck and God bless.

That is just acting on an impulse. It's like trying to hurry up and focus on a new activity (feeding yourself) rather than addressing the activity already going on in your mind, caused by whatever stressed you out. It's a way to ignore or escape the uncomfort you are dealing with without having to solve it. Which obviously isn't good because now your letting the problem grow while you're too busy thinking about wheather you want pizza or lucky charms. So i think it would be helpful to stay in the moment and ask yourself, 'how can i fix this?' or 'what will make me feel better?' And if eating makes you feel better, then hell-EAT. But maybe try to eat some fruit, or veggies, or cheese for protein. Drink more water, it's wonderful for the mind, body, and spirit, and makes the idea of eating less appealing (when you're not hungry)
If you 'can't control' it, then i guess that is that. But you can try to change it. Just by choosing wisely what you're consuming. Eating extra nutrients that will help support and protect your body, even if you are stressed, is good for you. And in your mind, you'll still feel like you have the comfort of food and the action of eating it.
Aside from all of that, take it easy. Calm down. Take deep breaths. And try to manage your stress. It's hard, but it works.
Stay up.
Great question.
Good luck-
You'll be fine ' )

Yeah, that's why I look the way I do. When I'm under a lot of stress (or if I'm angry) I try to stay away from the kitchen. I usually don't think about the eating while I'm doing it - it's so ingrained. But if I catch myself, I can stop. I go for a walk, call someone, get on the computer - anything to get away from the food.
It's gotten better over the last several months. I've put a lot of effort into losing some weight, so I'm very conscious of what I'm eating. It helps when I keep a food journal, and I write down every crumb that goes in my mouth. Doing that keeps me focused, and doesn't let me blindly throw stuff down just because I'm stressed.
I don't know if you'll find any of this useful or not, but I wish you luck.

There are plenty of things you can do. If you have money go to therapy and get a combination of cognitive therapy and behavior modification therapy. You are eating for emotional reasons. If you are not well fixed with cash, go to overeaters anonymous, they give you alot of support, emotional, behavior modification and a sensible diet plan to follow. Good Luck!!!!! P. S. A visit to a good nutritionist or dietician, preferably medically licensed can help alot too. You be surprised how much you can eat and still lose weight.

Call a friend and talk about something else. Find a release for the stress other than shutting down and eating.

Happens to me too. It is worse than quitting smoking because you can quit smoking cold turkey but you can't just quit eating. The temptation is always there HUH!
Try to get busy doing something to take your mind off it.
If you are a Christian, let Jesus be your food. Put your trust in Him and continue to focus on Him untill the urge to eat goes away.

i used to have this problem. When your bored or stressed you eat for that reason. Get a hobbie that keeps you focused on the hobbie and not eating more food. And get a massage or something to relieve stress or pain.

The only thing I have found is to not get stressed. Mainly, go to bed and sleep. Otherwise, I get stressed and eat.
