Something like this happened to my wife. We saw an ultrasound that the heart was beating and the baby was alive at about 8 weeks, but then another month later we went to the doctor and they did another ultrasound and said that it was a miscarriage waiting to happen, that the fetus had already died.

If this happens, you can either have a miscarriage or an operation called a D&C. Either way it is a really horrible event and if it has happened to you, you have my sympathies. Also know that whatever happened is not the fault of the mother. 1 out of every 5 pregnancies results in a miscarriage, and the numbers are probably higher according to our doctor. Also a person who has one is likely to be successful if they get pregnant again, so I hope that if the mother that this would happen to is sad, she will at least know that she can try again. Not that it really helps at the time, but it gives some hope for the future.

there is no such thing as sorta dead if the heart is no longer the baby is gone. If there was no heartbeat on ultrasound there is nothing to be done. I have heard this about the brain but not the heart....

yes this can happen! you go to the doc and the baby has a heartbeat then on the next visit the baby is bigger but they cant find a beat. This is a type of miscarriage and sometimes you need a DNC done.

I dont know about the baby continuing to grow. Doesnt seem like if the heart isn't beating the other organs wouldnt be functioning and the cells wouldnt multiply and what not. Hopefully hypotheical. Take care.

I don't know, but 5 years ago I was told that my baby had died, I refused a d&c and to make a long story short, that baby is now in the next room asleep.
miracles can happen, and not everything is explainable by science.

Sometimes the baby dies early during pregnancy. That would happen if the heart stopped working. If that happened you would have a miscarriage.

no. if the heart stops circulating blood through the baby's body, it will die within a few minutes.

the baby would not continue to grow because there would be no blood circulation.
