...Do you also have a burning sensation and tingling in your hands and fingers? Do these feelings bother you mainly when you are trying to sleep? ....It could be Carpal Tunnel Syndrome...I had to have surgery on both hands for this.
Get it checked out by a doctor...it could get worse...

Probably cervical radiculopathy. A pinched nerve in your neck can do that.
You should see your doctor because it may also indicate a brain tumour- but that is not very likely. Almost definitely a pinched nerve in your neck.

if the half of your hand that feels asleep only involves your thumb, forefinger, and middle finger, it may be carpal tunnel. are you involved in an activity with repetitive motion?

occassionally, this could be early signs of a stroke. might want to talk to your doctor.
