My hair is super frizzy. I try the "no more frizz" shampoos but they don't work. I straighten it but right after I wash my hair it goes back to being frizzy. So in other words...HELP!

Real Hair Solutions for Big, Frizzy Hair

Hair that is too poofy and has a tendency to get frizzy can be the most frustrating of hair to deal with. After taking time to painstakingly style this hair, the possessor will often see it grow and become frizzy almost immediately. While nothing will permanently change it into the smooth flowing mane of hair that most of us dream of, using shampoos, conditioners, and styling aids designed for this type of hair will greatly improve the texture and our degree of happiness with it. Start the care of your hair with the shampoo and conditioner.

Frizzy hair almost always needs extra moisturizing. When choosing a shampoo or conditioner, look for the words smoothing, moisturizing or hydrating. These products will contain emollients to smooth the hair shaft and offer more control during styling.

After the hair is towel dried you will want to apply one or more of the many smoothing agents to be found in stores.

Smoothing serums and frizz serums aid in smoothing the hair but usually do not offer the holding quality of other products. Some of these are light in weight and can be used alone on hair that gets frizzy but becomes overly limp with more product. Others are heavy in nature and aid in controlling hair with too much body. The heavier product should be used sparingly until you have experience in its effect on your type of hair. Serums are most often applied to wet hair.

Hair crèmes are creamy in form and usually add control to the hair along with the frizz relief properties. They can be used on wet hair or worked into dry hair and provide a certain amount of hold.

Gels offer the maximum in hold and are usually better at relieving frizz than a mousse. The layering of several of these products will increase the amount of frizz control.

Reading labels, advice from your hairdresser and experimenting will help you decide which products will work best for you.

Once you have decided on the proper products pay close attention to drying and styling your hair. I prefer to apply a frizz serum and hair crème and then let my hair air dry until it is damp but not dripping wet. Actual styling will not take place until the last few minutes of drying time. Be sure to exercise control over the hair while it is drying. Concentrate on small areas and work slowly. Allowing the hair to blow around will only accentuate the unruliness. I have found that a round boar-bristle brush works best to smooth out very curly hair, leaving it with a healthy shine.

Make sure the hair is completely dry. Any moisture in the hair will cause it to revert to its frizzy texture. You may use several tools to finish your style. A one and one half inch curling iron or larger will smooth out left over unruliness and give it shape. A paddle brush used with a blow dryer will put the finishing touches on a straight style. When your hair is dried and styled, further styling and smoothing is offered by pomades and hair waxes.

Finish your style with a flexible hair spray and, even in humidity, everyday will be a "Good Hair Day".

We all know by now that using a conditioner is necessary to control frizzy hair. The trick is to leave the conditioner on for a few minutes before rinsing it out. If you have extra time, try wrapping your hair in a towel with the conditioner on and let your hair "soak" for about 10-15 minutes. Then rinse it out.

When you're done, wrap your hair in a towel for several minutes to get out the access water instead of rubbing the towel over your head. Both towel rubbing and brushes lead to hair breakage and make it much more vulnerable to frizzy hair.

Try just putting on some mousse and comb it in. Let air dry and don't run your fingers or a comb through it until it's completely dry. Using a blow dryer in hot weather will probably make the problem worse. If you want your hair straight and that's the only way you can get it that way, then by all means, use the dryer. Just use the cool setting and don't use it every day.

Choose a hair stylist experienced in curly/dry hair.

Have your hair stylist help you choose a hairstyle that is easy to maintain--preferably one that just requires a wet-and-go approach.

Once you have your favored style, visit your stylist at least 4 times a year to trim split ends.

Don't let your hair stylist use a razor to layer your hair (although layering is good.) Razors contribute to split ends.

Don't wash hair every day. This kind of hair needs the natural oils from your scalp to reduce frizz.

To upkeep your desired style, just wet hair with some conditioner on non-washing days (rinse thoroughly).

Avoid using hairdryers unless necessary. Blowdrying hair dries it out. If you must use a hair dryer than make sure you use a diffuser.

Believe it or not, grease, mousses and gels make caring for this kind of hair harder!! Chemical build-ups require more washing than is healthy.

If you must use products, use high-quality, health-food store or salon products that leave little residue.

Do not brush, unless you want a 'fro.

Love your hair! Many are envious of the regal quality of curly hair!

Hope this helps~

i totally know what you mean, and i'm with ya sister.... but that's just a part of your hair and you have to accept it for that way... maybe try not straightening it... that's what i do, and my hair looks better, see if your hairs naturally wavy... do a style that makes frizzy hair look beautiful... i use an oil product that's from target... if you'd like, i could give you more info on that product.. it helps a lot, but it doesn't exactly get rid of all the frizz, it just makes my hair healthier and more moist, because frizz mainly means that its dry and coarse and needs moisture.... i bet you'll find a way to work things out, just remember you're always beautiful no matter what!!!

I have frizzy hair. Usually you put in a tad more condtioner than what's reccomended in the shower, and then get some great anti-frizz leave-in and put it in while you are styling your hair or while it is still damp. Also, (this may sound weird) when you are using lotion, if you have any leftover on your hands and your hair is frizzy rub it in your hair and it actually works ^_^

Firs tally love your hair the way that it is... There is nothing that can really change hair texture. You should try some smoother er like pantene, or John Freida. I know how hard is the summer for us, but a good advice is to leave it natural, there are a lot of nice hair styles for frizzy hair, you just have to find which is good for you.

Good luck!!!

Dude, I was a regular Hermione Granger. lol. Mine is terrible sometimes but here's some products that work great for me and I hope something works for you too!
MATRIX styling products (particualry the styling cream)
Dove smoothing cream
Pink lotion (for after straightening your hair but too much will make feel heavy or flat)
I like Suave mousse. Its cheap and smells soo great but on super humid days it can only do so much.

There are several different hair serums you can buy. The best ones are John Frieda, Bio silk, and Aveda Brilliant finishing gloss, and has to be purchased at an Aveda Salon. The others can be purchased at your local drug store. It also helps if you want to wear your hair straight.
