You could try heat. But if it's infected that may not help at all. You need to get it checked out so you know the definite diagnosis and treatment.

How do you know that it is a cyst if you haven't been to the doctor? You have many different veins and muscles that run in that area, if you even nick the wrong one you could cause serious damage, even death. Please see a doctor. If your embarrassed or scared, remember these people do this for a living and have see much worse, I guarantee it!!! I am a nurse and you would be amazed at the things I see on a daily basis. But having a professional take a look saves a lot of pain and a lot of lives!!! If your worried about your parents finding out, go to your local health department or health clinic, they have to keep your info confidential.

People have done it, but its not as easy as it first seems.

First off you had better be pretty sure its a Bartholin gland cyst and nothing more. If it turns out to be a tumor and you cut into it, you can really ,really cause havoc.

Next- remember that you can probably wait to see if it goes away. If its not infected, most docs will let it be for a while anyway.

But, if it is infected, its like an abscess- tender, warm, and usually the skin over it is tense or stretched. In this case what the doctor usually does is sterilizes the skin and vagina with betadine, injects lidocaine so youwont jump off the table, then opens it with a scalpel at the thinnest point. Sometimes a jet of pus comes out. Smell bad? You cant imagine.

Then he or she inserts a wick or packing or a drain or puts in a suture or two so that the abscess stays open and wont reclose.

If your up to doing this on yourself, my hat is off to you. Remember to biopsy yourself to rule out malignancy if youre over 40. Also you want to culture yourself for gonorrhea since that is often associated. If you dont have any chocolate agar at home for the GC culture, maybe just give yourself a shot of 125 mg Ceftriaxone in lidocaine.

Absolutely not!!! As an RN, I can offer a few suggestions/give you some advice. First of all, a cyst is not an STD, so, there is nothing to be ashamed of. If you don't want to see your family doc or don't have insurance, go somewhere like a free clinic of Planned parenthood. Also, if a cyst is not properly removed, it will continue to return. It can also spread, just like a zit. If it is in your vagina, it is probably a Bartholin's cyst and is really no big deal, but it will need to be drained and packed. They will give you pain meds. Please get professional help with this!!

Oh, sure you can do it yourself. Let's see, you can use a paring knife, no, maybe a fishing knife, or maybe a pocket knife, that'll be smaller. You could use a box cutter, or a sterile butter knife. Oh, even better yet, a butcher knife, gotta be sure to get it all. If you leave any part of the cyst, it could lead to infection, so be sure to douse it really well with alcohol afterwards, and perhaps three times a day for the next two weeks, and if that burns too much, maybe some Tylenol to relieve the pain. Oh, yeah, try it yourself, go ahead, make yourself miserable, why doncha?

Wow... i imagine you may want to ask yet another medical professional. quite some situations docs do communicate concerns mutually. In 1968 I had an ovarian cyst (even as pregnant) faraway from my left ovary, taking a million/3 of the ovary. Then I went on to have 3 extra children, without subject matters. I once had a gynecologist tell me that her sister only had a niche of an ovary disregarded of both and went on to conceive 4 children.

GOD NO!!!! Why would you even want to!!! You may think you want to do this, perhaps because you feel embarassed, but medical professionals see these types of things everyday, all day. The risk of doing something like that could lead to infection and scarring, which is far more worse than a few moments of being embarassed. GO TO THE DOCTOR!!

how do you know for sure it is a cyst? It could be something else. It is best to get it checked. If money or no insurance are an issue, look in your yellow pages, you can usually find women's resource centers and clinics willing to work with you. Good Health to you.

Get some monostat (sp???). Insert it on the inside, and on the outside, and you'll clear up in days. Now, that's if you're a good girl, and haven't been having numerous sexual partners. If that's the case, you may want to get to the doctor for a really strong antibiotic. Good luck!
