Are "to have a special liking for something" 她 就 特 別 喜 歡 金 頭 髮 的 人 and to be fond of something 愛 好 the same? Is 愛 好 expressed in a more negative manner?
For example, if a man said 我 愛 好 女 人, would he sound like a horny man?

In the original example that I gave, the girl has a weakness for blonds. If I can't express in Chinese this liking for blonds is beyond her control, then I guess I will have to settle for "She chases after blonds." 在 中 國 在 車 上, 一 個 中 國 小 姐 主 意 一 個 外 國 男 人 上 車. 她 以 為 是 起 電 其 實 她 就 特 別 喜 歡 金 頭 髮 的 人.

Hi,

I wouldnt say I am very good at translation. But I took English as a first language and also took chinese as a first language (both scoring As). In addition, my work required me to do lots of translations so this is just my little opinion.

While many of the people answering you are good in chinese, I think either their english has room for improvement or the way you phrased your question caused them to misunderstand...

I guess when you said, "to have a weakness for".. you meant in the english sense of liking something.

While many answered "有弱点", in actual fact, this is merely a literal translation. There is in fact no special translation for 'have a weakness for' something in Chinese. People usually just say 'like' (喜欢).

'愛 好' is more of referring to a hobby. So if you said, 我 愛 好 女 人, it meant you like women as a hobby? Hahaha.. whether tat sounds horny.. you decide okie :)

If you wanted to say you loved women and had a weakness for women, probably the best thing to say is "我对女人有好感" which literally means "I have a liking for women.

I could give you a better suggestion if you could give me your context for translation ;)

Cheers

Hey, I'm a Chinese instructor. When you use 喜歡in Chinese, you may use it to describe your affections for people and hobbies. But you don't use 愛好to describe your affection for people it's only for hobbies. To have a weakness for probably means 有...弱點in Chinese. I hope this helps. :D

p.s. I'm glad you're learning to write in the traditional characters. I'm from Taiwan and use that kind of characters. They are a lot more beautiful, aren't they?

愛好's the same, just an extra word. 他在數學方面特別弱
to have weakness for= 特別弱
Translation: 他在數學方面特別弱= He has a weakness in maths
