My cat has started this weird habit. He pulls his butt across the floor, leaving skidmarks. He does it now and then, not a lot, so I don't think it's a medical problem, I think he's just cleaning his butt. My question is, how common is this? I've heard of a lot of crazy things that cats do, what is the weirdest or most suprising you know of? Can you top a Kitty Skidmark?
One other thing he used to do as a kitten was suckle on my arm, which was a weird sensation. Luckily he grew out of that.

Okay, my cat doesn't have worms. Thanks for the concern. The question is, what kind of crazy habits cats have. Thank you to the 2 so far who HAVE answered the question.

I had a cat who started doing that after she was hit by a car. She was in the animal hospital for some time, and lost part of her tongue. She could still eat, but had trouble cleaning herself. THe poor thing had trouble even bending enough to get to her bottom. She was uncomfortable and itchy, and found a solution. From that day forward she carpet scooted. If I got to her in time and cleaned her bottom with baby wipes she wouldn't do it. She was just uncomfortable if her butt wasn't clean.
Well that cat finally got old and died. Poor thing.
Is your cat fat or old with arthritis? Might he have some reason he can't clean himself well? Or did he just invent this on his own?
I would rather scoot than lick if it were me too. Yuck.
Maybe try the baby wipes. I'm sure it just itches! PS I've heard some animals do this when they have worms because that itches them too. I assume your vet checks for that though at regular visits. Mine always does.

I had a kitten that used to try to suck on my ear lobe, and like you another would suckle on my shirt, (wool sucker it what it's called). Some say it relates to the kitten being weaned too young, or being without a mom to feed from.
I never trained my cat, but this one time I was washing the floor when I heard water splashing in the toilet, it scared me a little because I was the only one home, when I looked the cat was peeing in the toilet. This must have appealed to my other cat because he started using the toilet too.

Your cat may have worms. No kidding. Cats and Dogs will both do this if they have intestinal worms. So it may be more than just a quirky habit - I would get him/her checked by a vet. I've had a ton of cats and yes they have really strange behavior at times, but none of my has done this. I had a dog that did this, and she did have worms.

hi it does mean he has worms, or sometimes they get something stuck there like string or other stuff they swallow, i know it sound s weird but at christmas time i had all my tinsel out and the kittys were chewing on it, i took it away but the next day babette was dragging her but on the floor so i took a wipe cause i thought she had some poop stuck and i pulled out a piece of tinsel! so make sure there is not stuff like thread or things they can swallow, if they donot then it is worms y0u can get a worm pill from a vet for about 4 dollars and it usually works better than that hartz stuff.

Rubbing their butts across the floor is neither a crazy habit, nor is it normal. It does indicate that something is not right. If you are sure it is not worms, plugged anal glands, or excess feces, it is possible that he has a hormone deficiency that is causing him to itch. Hormone shots are available and relatively inexpensive. There are long term consequences if not treated, one of the least of which is licking off his fur. Please take him to the vet, explain what is going on and ask for a blood screen.

Take your cat to a Vet and have his Anal Glands checked.
They probably need to be "expressed".
Normally cats "express" a substance along with their feces, for marking purposes. Some cats need to have their anal glands manually expressed from time-to-time.
If your cat fails to express his anal gland regularly, the material within can build up and becomes hard. Scooting across the floor or licking the anal region can be signs of anal gland impaction.
Infection often accompanies impaction. Infected anal glands can rupture to the surface much like any other abscess. Veterinary treatment is essential.

honestly one of my cats likes to drink out of the lavatory...yet I gained't enable him because even as he did it earlier he were given unwell from it. He also likes to drink from the tub tap after I honestly have it with a small move of water. My different cat loved to bat on the water bowls til the water changed into all around the floor and under no circumstances interior the bowl. I were given a water fountain for pets to counteract that and that enables often yet there is often times water on the floor nonetheless! also, my one cat likes to be close to me even even as i'm on the computer and could honestly bounce up on the table and lay in the back of the visual demonstrate unit. often times he will chew on the computer wire yet when he does that it is because he ought to be fed. At that element I both feed him or lock him out of the room the position the computer is because it isn't time for him to eat yet. He does it specially for interest.

I agree with the others..your cat probably has worms. When you deworm her you should deworm yourself as well.
I had an utterly nutty cat. Highly strung doesn't even begin to describe her.
When I went to university I started playing classical music to help me study.
A miraculous change in her..she became really calm whenever that music was playing.
When we went to bed at night I'd play "Bach for Booklovers, Mozart for Meditation" or another one for dreams. She'd curl up on the bed with her ear as close to the speaker as possible & drift off for a peaceful night.
HEAVEN! .. for both of us!

Often cats will do this because they have impacted anal glands.Keep a eye out for your cat licking or showing any sign of pain if you touch him on his hind quarters. usually if you do not have your vet drain the anal glands they will rupture and abscess and then need a antibiotic.. It will look like a small open sore right near his butt area.
