DONT drink castor oil....you dont want to induce natural labor when the baby isnt ready to come out yet. I have been pregnant 3 times and I know how miserable the last few weeks are....you are just waiting for him to come out....He will come out when he is ready. Plus drinking oil will just make you go to the bathroom!! Be patient!! It sucks, but you dont want to force labor on him!! Good Luck

The first part of this is an answer to a question asked on Ask Yahoo, the rest is my own.

The greenish extract of a large tropical plant, castor oil has been used for many years to ease constipation and induce vomiting. Basically, it's WD40 for the gastro-intestinal tract.

It has been used for that purpose many times but there is no guarentee that it will work. It is best to let nature take it's course.
Don't do anything that might harm your unborn child. If you don't know the actual effects then why would you want to take that risk with your child. You are being selfish. You are thinking of you and not both of you. Talk to your Doctor.

Don't drink anything to go into labor.
Just go to your doctor with a list of reason's why you want to be induced and he will schedule you for an induction. That's what I did with both of my kids. I had them both at 37 weeks because I was just tired of being pregnant. I had a list so I wouldn't forget any of the reason's I came up with. I know it may sound silly but I was done being pregnant.
Some of the reason's I used are:
-Scared to go into labor at home
-Husband might be at work and unable to get a hold of
-I want certain people to be in the room and they need to take off work to be there
-First child and very nervous
-Live a long way away from the hospital

Those are a few I used. You might have some other reason's you can list. It worked for me and it can work for you. Just look very venerable and worried and he or she should be willing to schedule you to be induced.

It's so much nicer going to the hospital and not being in labor. You can set everything up and not be in a panic.
I recommend being induced.

Good luck.

Well if you haven't already, I'm sorry. I will be 37 weeks tomorrow and this is number 5. I did castor oil with number 3 and he came that night. 10 days early. I did it with number 4- 3 times and he still didn't come till his due date. Just got a lot of cramps. I am 1.5 cm. now and have thought about it but not sure yet.

You could hurt yourself and the baby by doing that. I would just wait until the baby is ready. Thats the only thing you can do. The baby needs all the time it has to mature and gain weight. I know its ahrd being pregnant but enjoy this time when the baby comes youre not gonna get any rest. You could maybe walk come too sometimes that will speed up labor.

possibly, because it will cause your bowels to contract, and usually the uterus as well. However, you may not go into labour if you aren't ready. You may just have an awful case of the runs any time now, and just make yourself more tired by sitting on the toilet all night. You may also wind up with a lung infection, since castor oil seems to have an afinity to lung tissue.

I did that once. WOW. I drank it with coke.... I was 2 weeks late with the baby at the time. Well I didnt go into labor for ANOTHER 3 days but I had diarrhea for a WEEK. Which if you do the math, accounts for a very embarressing labor!

My ex tried drinking a mix of castor oil, vanilla ice cream, and orange juice trying to induce labor. Not only did it not work, but she was on the toilet all day and later said it was painful as hell.

It didn't work for me. I tried everything. people told me spicy food so I tried that to. The only good thing about the Castor oil (I tried it with my second) is that it cleaned me out and I didn't poop when my daughter was born. Sounds gross but that's child birth. Good luck, you could ask your Dr. if they could induce you. I was induced for a few of mine. Have fun with your baby. There is nothing like being a parent.
