There are those who don't like police based on their own bad experiences, from seeing corrupt officers on tv and in the news, or from things friends have told them or whatever.

My theory, from all the people I've dealt with who did and didn't appreciate the job I was doing for the community, is that it's much more in depth.

It's the police officer's job, when you get down to it, to get involved in someone else's business. Unless you are the one calling the police that day, then they are getting into your business when you don't want them to really get involved. Most people want to handle things themselves, they don't like others butting in or taking over, and they resent the intrusion into their privacy and their lives. And even if you are the one calling the police, a lot of people don't like the fact that they couldn't handle it themselves and had to call for someone to help and take care of it.

Whatever the reason some people seem to hate police officers, there are plenty of people out there who truly appreciate what they do. When I'm in uniform, I quite often get approached by people telling me thank you and that they appreciate it.

I am a police officer and I never see any of the " bad " stuff people say the police do? I accually find it hard to understand how you have a crooked cop like everyone says.

I see people who don't understand the law themselves and try to understand it the way they want to, because they got themselves into a jam.

I also see the people who don't like the police as the people who have had bad run ins with them. People who don't have problems with the police tend to like the police more.

Police have a job to do. If the police don't activly seek the problem people, then there are more and more crimes against the inocesnt people. Not to mention there are no consequnces for people actions when they do something. Then everyone would be robbing and burglarizing. Forget jail, probation, and parole. Let's get rid of the police and see what happens.

the criminal justice system is now one of the largest employers in the United States. High salaries for police judges prosecutors and whole communities dependent on the prison located there. The system depends on a steady flow of people who volunteer to enter the system as prisoners. These volunteers are taught by their community, their schools, their music and their politicians to go to jail and we call them criminals.. If they happen to be loose temporarily in the community they know on some level how much they have been exploited by the system and so do their wives and children, mothers etc. Of course they then hate police, just-us courts etc. The police and courts, and prison officials return this hatred to fuel it even more. The prisoners have been assigned a place and a role in society and it is not a good role. This assignment comes very early in life to most.

Aside from criminals, you mean? Not that many of the rest of us do - but there are, unfortunately, some people in that job who simply should not be there. Those're the ones that give all cops a bad name - and it would be well for the police to do a much, much better job of policing themselves. Nobody , not even a cop (or the President of the United States, even in time of war), is above the law. Nobody.

My Dad was a cop, He left the police force after 7 years. My Dad says you can never trust a cop, and that cops are the biggest criminals in the world.
What more reason could a person need?

The question should really be... who here has ever had a good experience with a cop? Thank you officer, I would LOVE a ride to jail because I didn't have the money to pay for my speeding ticket of 7 miles over the limit.

I wouldn't go so far as to apply the word HATE in my situation, but let me give you a few reasons why I don't particularly have much love and trust for them.

1.) In Cincinnati where I live, there have been multiple BAD Police shooting over the passed several years. Each one has a common denominator. They involve UNARMED MINORITIES and white cops.

2.) Racism is a KNOW problem in The Cincinnati Police Department and is being addressed on a National level.

3.) About 6 years ago I walked into a closeout store, picked up several cleaning items I needed to buy for my semi. Since the store didn't have eveything I wanted, I put those same items back on the shelf, walked out, and walked into a bigger department store in the same strip mall (where i could buy everything at once). 15 minutes later, in walked the police, who frisked me right in the middle of the store in front of everyone, and spoke to me in an unprofessional manner, implying that I am a thief. They took me out to my semi, which had a half empty bottle of the same cleaner I was trying to buy at the discount store and tried to feed me a line of garbage that I stole that bottle from the closeout store! So, that gave them the excuse they needed to search my semi. They removed just about the entire contents of my truck onto the ground, including very personal LEGAL items (I am not talking about drug paraphenelia here, not even close). I live in that semi about 5 days a week. Imagine for yourself what I have in there. Bagered me for over an hour, threatened me with jail multiple times. Meanwhile, everyone coming and going got to hear and see it all. I didn't go to jail because I didn't do anything wrong, but was humiliated and treated like a criminal.. without an apology.

4.) A teenage nephew of my friend ran from police, trying to avoid getting arrested for a misdemeanor he commited. He was WRONG to run. And he was GUILTY of what he was being accused of. But he ran. The police turned the cop dog on him. The dog caught him. After the cops and my freind caught up to the nephew, the police let that damn dog gnaw on him for over a minute passed the time it was necessary to subdue the boy. The cops thought it was funny.

5.) Last April, I got tired while driving a my semi. Do YOU, the public, want me driving a semi grossing 75 thousands pounds down the road tired? I was in a rural area of Ohio. I pulled off onto the shoulder of an exit ramp and put my head on the steeringwheel for about 10 minutes, woke up, got out of the truck, and did some stretches for another 5 minutes, got back in the truck and downed some coffee. Just as I released my brakes a cop pulled in behind me and hit the lights. I would up getting a speeding ticket for doing 69 MPH in a 55. I had been parked for at least 15 minutes.

6.) It is now SOP for Ohio State Highway Patrol to pull over semis for anything they can possibly construte as an infraction, tell the driver they are getting a very serious ticket..Serious meaning speed, following too close, improper lane change..Then act like they are doing us a "favor" by only writing an $80 seat belt ticket.

I could go on, but you get the picture..Thanks for reading =)

It is simply because of the bad image of the police department. Not all, but a few rotten eggs made this bad impression against the department. They are one engaged in illegal activities, such as drug dealing, protecting criminal and organized crime groups, making false accusations and charges to innocent civilians to cover their stinky asses, squezzing money from complainants whom they are suppose to serve and protect. But still, there are majority of our police officers who are willing to lay down their own lives to serve and protect the general populace.
