I think both have their advantages.

both actually because you can make use of your instincts in caring for other people's lives and welfare. working out to build character in the upbringing process of raising kids and/or a family. passing what you have learned from one generation to the other.
but if you insist on me choosing one, i'd like to be a parent. i can pass, practice and make use of the things i have learned from my parents and do away and correct the mistakes encountered during my time. and in due time, when my kids become parents themselves, they can share/teach/learn/practice/pass what i have shared/taught/learned/practiced and received from their grandparents...

This one is easy. Grandparent. No question. Not even close. Being a parent is a 24/7 job, but you can chose when you want to be with your grandchildren, and all of that time is nothing but pure joy. You simply spoil them rotten with unconditional love and acceptance. As a parent, you have other responsibilities, spoiling them is not among those responsibilities. Your job with your children is to make them responsible adults and you tend to be more critical of them and have much higher expectancies.

I'm currently the parent of a 16 year old daughter, and 12 year old son. Looking forward to being a grandparent, because then I can spoil the grandkids silly (like my folks do with my kids), and then when I get sick of dealing with them, I can send them back to their parents...who have to deal with them!! LOL My mom says being a grandmother is so much fun she wishes she could've done it first!!!

Well I'm obviously neither one of them right now, but I hope to be a parent by the time I'm 27 or older. I think it would be fun having your own little family and watching your child grow up, even though there will be heartbreaks and anger over their cellphone bills or remarks they can make when you are arguing with them, but it's all part of being a parent.

defiantly a parent....Being a parent offers a continuous amount of interaction with the child in your life. whereas being a grandparent is dependent on rather or not the child you raised has the time to or lives in a close geographical area that makes visits possible.

I'm happy being a parent, and very proud of my son who will be turning 21 in just a month. I'm especially proud of him for actualizing his lifelong dreams of becoming a firefighter.

As for becoming a grandmother, well, I'm looking forward to that, but honestly, I'm 45 & would prefer to wait just five more years. Then I can really spoil my grandkids rotten ;)

i wouldnt trade being a mom for anything... but being a grandma is great! there are advantages to both..... grandparenting is cool because its not as hands on full time as parenting is... its nice to have a baby in the house and not have to get up for those night time feedings! when your gramma you do because you want to... when your mom, you do because you have to... but the rewards to both are great too.. :)
