I've been away from Catholic school for a while and I get the feeling I'm doing it in the wrong order, which is making me a bit paranoid whenever I pray

Up, down, left shoulder, right shoulder?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

up.down.left.right.

But God cares more that you are praying! Good for you!

As coordinator of religious education at a Catholic parish---I am very proud of you and will pray for you myself.

Up, down, left, right, in the Catholic tradition.

In some orthodox traditions, it is up, down, right, left.

Anybody ever read "Brave New World"? In that novel, society worships the concept of the assembly line, so people make the sign of the T, as in Model T (Henry Ford).

Catholics cross themselves thus:

Head, heart, left shoulder, right shoulder.

Eastern Orthodox cross themselves like so:

Head, heart, right shoulder, left shoulder.

I'm not Catholic, but I think you have it right. Forehead, middle of chest, left shoulder, right shoulder.

If you're Catholic, you are correct.

Orthodox Christians, however, cross themselves the other way (up, down, right, left).

If you're Catholic, it's up-down-left-right.

If you're Orthodox, it's up-down-right-left.

(I know this because my ex-Catholic mother and I went to an Orthodox service last weekend. It was like watching choreography gone wrong.)
