Do you know of anyone who uses their real name and information online?
Not only does everyone use fake information about themselves online, but you would be unwise not to do so yourself.

No one can't really stop you.
Cops go undercover as teenagers in chat rooms to help raise awareness of online predators.
But then again, they're cops, so it's not illegal because it's part of their job.
It's very easy to lie about who you are online, that's what makes it so dangerous.
No one can make you tell the truth about yourself on the internet, so no, I guess it's not illegal, but it can be dangerous.

no , cops do it to find sexual predators , they act like a young girl and trap these guys by their own sickness , isn't that cool. we need more undercover people here . the only thing is anyone can say they are undercover cops and pretty much scare you , so it has a bad side too

Depends on who you are impersonating and what country you live in. The laws covering that are different depending on where you live. For example, in the U.S. it is illegal to impersonate a police officer, so yes, that would probably fall under illegal, but, as to impersonating other people, I'm not sure.

People do it all the time. I'm sure reporters do it regularly. I think the real question is, is it ethical?
