We all have heard, I think therefore I am. ;) We could also try " I am curious, therefore I am. Or "I am am seeking knowledge and experiences therefore I am" See you at the campfire.

In the original intention, I believe "I Think" means:

I am AWARE.

In that case, no changes are needed at all... since awareness is, by nature, ever expanding, which encompasses curiosity, seeking, and so on...

But I do like your openness to change and a willingness to redefine values of words, since they can become stale and lose meaning in repetition and familiarity...

:)

I remember debating this very subject in a graduate class fifteen years ago. If it's not thought that is the most certain criteria for existence, then what is? We concluded that because God knows we are, therefore we are. Is this why you posted this question in the religion/spirituality section instead of the philosophy section? Kum bah yah.

LOL - loved rb_cubed's response!!!

personally...without thought, choice is illogical - merely a random happenstance. it's only with thought that we can apply our preferences/needs/morals and make the correct choices. so therefore...

i choose to think...therefore i am.

ps -- did anyone remember to bring marshmallows??

Well since we are unsure whether choice exists, I would say I believe, therefore, I believe I am.

Your history of conditioning has lead to your talking to yourself and to say that you have choice when in reality choice is an explanatory fiction for an inadequate explanation of the causal relationship between environmental stimuli and behavior. Welcome to the campfire.

Descartes had it all backwards with "I think, therefore I am."

Cognition cannot presuppose existance, for one has to exist before one can think. Therefore the correct statement should be.

"I am, therefore I think!"

"I am therefore I am" Nothing can be more accurate than that.
