Why do those who believe in religion shun those who believe in things like the Flying Spaghetti Monster and ghosts and such. You already stopped believe in Santa so why do you still believe in God and religion when its the very same thing? Is it because you are too weak to believe in yourself and too blind to notice propoganda?
I find that those who abolish religion and "God" are more at one with nature and will accomplish alot more.
Can two hands working accomplish more than a thousand clasped in prayer?

Why do people believe their proof is a book written many years ago? How do you know its not fiction? How do you know it wasn't made with the sole intention of brainwashing?

Could all the lessons that are taught in the bible be replaced without creating stories that are believed to be fictional?
If I created a book to abolish religions now and teach the same lessons will it eventually lose its status as fiction and become an actual bible again?

Why do people believe that just because there is no answer for something, that God has to be behind it? Why do make arguments defending religion that include science?
(They are completely separate and one should not be used to explain the other.)
Why do people confuse faith with insecurity?

I'm sorry if I seem like I'm racist against religion, it just makes NO SENSE to me - it is perhaps the most disturbing thought in the world to know that people would blindly follow anything based on a false preconception of "faith". I believe "Faith" shows vulnerability and it also causes many fights among those who think otherwise - it's just one reason we're still not at peace.

Some of you associate those who abolish religion as those who are sinful - but I feel more pure and at one with my animal safe by not following anything else - I feel more in control of myself than I would have ever. I'd rather meet the five atheists, becuase I'd know they base their life on reason and practicality, and I'd trust my life with them more.

"Just because someone is religous, doesn't make them a "lemming" any more than you are a "lemming" for following the group that doesn't believe in god."
- You say it as if God has always existed and I'm the one whose denouncing him. My mindset is nothing of the sort - God has never existed, so there is no group I am following. It's the same as me saying there's a sour patch alien watching us all, but I'm the only one who believed it so I group you all as those who failed to follow his ways.

Why is religion so impenetrable that it can't be argued against by strict followers? How can I combat with those who think I'm being controlled by some being other than myself? How long will it take for me to find the one mistake they made in the bible that will allow me to prove its falsity? Will it matter since proof matters not to those with religion?

I'm glad I don't believe in religion, because it allows me to enjoy my life now, because I don't think I'll have a second shot at it. If Heaven exists, where are the pictures? You think since it'd be so perfect they'd be able to send something back? Why not enjoy your life as it is instead of hoping for something better all the time? Why not take initiative yourself instead of waiting around for something to give you it? You're only kidding yourself, dig deeper. Do you think animals believe in God too? I don't ever see them praying. - Why would a God create a world where only one creature on Earth would believe in him? Wouldn't he want respect from all of "his creations"?

That is basically because humans always think and behave as if they are smarter than they really are. They even go to the extend of ostracizing and killing others for the God that they have not even met.

To me it seems that it is just as likely there is a god that there isn't. Can you prove that there isn't a god? nope. Can you prove that there is a god? nope.
I'm really not religous at all. I love astronomy and space sciences. My IQ is 148. I am a nice guy, who is well liked by most people.
Just because someone is religous, doesn't make them a "lemming" any more than you are a "lemming" for following the group that doesn't believe in god. No matter what your beliefs, you are probably following a group of some kind, if you know it or not.
This next part is not directed at the question asker, but at some of the other people who answered:
People who think other people should go to hell are assholes. You think someone should be in eternal agony because they didn't believe a book? Even if they were otherwise good people? You think people should be constantly burned and tortured because they weren't dipped in water? What does that say about you?
Jesus preached a message of tolerence, yet a good 70-80% of all wars were caused by christians forcing their beliefs on other people.
I've got nothing against the average christian, but those ******* religous nuts need to stop taking everything so seriously.

God is God and there is nothing that anyone can do about it. You seem to be a person who agrees with logic. Things need to make perfect sense in order to be real. What makes God so special is that he didn't reveal everything to us! We can go back to the history of santa, and most things that are of an earthly nature; however, some things are still unknown. We can even go back to when Jesus was born! Those things are revealed! Unfortunately, we cannot go back to the beginning of time. We can only speculate or make accusation. This is why there are so many different answers. I believe in and on God and nothing will ever change my mind. You ask some really good questions, but ask yourself this....can anyone explain why we die? What is the logic behind this? We can obtain sores, broken bones, get stabbed or shot and some people heal as if nothing ever happened, yet they are still going to die. If life was created by a big bang theory or any other theory.......why did that same theory create death also? Now that doesn't make sense.

One question at a time.
1. People believe in God without proof because that is the basis for faith. Apparently having faith allows you to do things you couldn't do otherwise (but don't ask me, I have no faith).
2. They shun the Great Green Frog, Mr. Pimples the Cheeseburger without Mayonnaise, and other such gods because their religion, which they have placed their faith in, has branded these gods as idols and explicitly forbids worshipping them. (But to me, there is nothing more absurd about believing in a flying spaghetti monster than there is about believing in God).
3. The churches don't actually tell you to believe in Santa Claus, nor does the scripture. That's just some BS a bunch of commercialists made up in the 1930's. (Though there was a St. Nicholas)
4. I would wager to say that two hands clasped in prayer could accomplish more than 1,000 working, if it were done right. But, I haven't done it because I don't believe in anything.
5. People follow like lemmings because it's our nature to just go along with whatever the others are doing. Nothing new about this.

I am religious, I do believe in GOD and here is why...
Please read and consider what I say very carefully, open your mind and let go of your humanity.
This is a silly question. think my friend for a moment. Do you go into a grocery store and ask for the manager and get the reply:
"Why do you believe there is a manager?"
The fact that the grocery store exists leads to the fact that there is a manger I.E> the fact that the universe exists itslelf lends to the fact that GOD also exists.
Say I'm holding a pencil and you ask me
"who made that pencil in your hand?"
And I replied
"No one. It made itself."
You would never ever believe me... right??? Obviously pencils dont just come into existance or make themselves..... So if you cannot believe that a simple pencil cannot just come into existance... Why could anyone believe that the univers just came into existance??? With all it's complexities laws and rules and its complex setup.... If a simple pencil cannot simply come into existance without a creator than how can the infinite universe???
Plus if you think about it the universe had equivelant chances of coming into existance as absolutely any possilble combination of setups of atoms without guidance. It could have come into existance as a jumbo jet, or a nuclear missile. It also hade a 1/infinity chance of bearing life, but for some reason it did. I dont like those odds, something must have guided it.
Also another point is ask someone where anything came from. Lets go back to the pencil. Well it came from a factory.... and the factory was made by humans, and humans crawled out of the primordial sludge, and the sludge came from a mixture of carbon and oxygen atoms struck by lightning, and the lightning came from uneven heating of the earth, and uneven heating of the earth came from the sun, and the sun came from hydrogen being converted into helium, which was brought about by gravity, which came from the big bang, wait a sec.... where did the big bang come from? What started it? See, if you go back far enough there has to be some unmoved mover... something.someone who started all the processes of everything... you can go through an infinite number of steps but you always lead back to the truth which is that there is a GOD. Plain and simple.
GOD Bless you all and may he guide you to understanding.
BTW, I'm a 17 yr old catholic!
Also its programmed into the human soul and that is why so many people believe in him.

Why do atheist who don't comprehend Christianity think they are superior? Because you don't understand something, you insult our intelligence? Has it ever occurred to you that many people were once nonbelievers and then learned about God? Quit being a disciple of your priest in lab coats. Just because they say something does not make it true. Too many of them are just trying to get another grant. They have to come up with new and different ideas to get $$. It does not matter whether their ideas have any validity, as long as it something new. So they put forth all these crazy theories and gullible lab mice follow them.
I think you should go back and educate yourself on what has been accomplished by people of religion vs atheist. Even religions that I don't agree with have done a heck of a lot more than atheist.

Have you heard of Rene Descartes? In his Discourse and Meditations, he proved, within a philosophical framework, that God does exist and also discussed the nature of the human soul. But since he was a devout Catholic, some discount this as being proof by reason and simply say that it was a result of his faith.
You might also be interested in learning more about Deism, a leading school of thought in the Enlightenment. Deists believe that God exists, and is the creator of everything, but he is a sort of "absentee landlord" who set it all in perfect form and motion and then made it our responsibility. I think that they are more "at one with nature," and the Romantic pantheists are even moreso.
I'm not suggesting this to try to convert you or anything. I just wanted to let you know that there is "proof" and "reason" for the existance of God outside of religion.
(And while I try to resist criticizing anothers faith, I am contiually disturbed by certain posts. Can someone please tell me why Christians continue to insist that they are the only ones who know God, or are the ones who know Him best, or are the only ones with a personal relationship with him, or are the ones that He loves most, etc. etc.? Honestly folks, that's why I left that religion, but I have not abandoned my faith in God.)

Everyone that screams propaganda in the first place is trying to hide something. Plenty of proof of god and creation, hardly any proof you exist but apparently you are typing from a computer somewhere. If you hear about a tornado wiping something out and it is on the news I am sure you believe that happened although you did not see it. Just because you cant see dosent make it any less real. I cant see the air, but I believe that it is there. A tornado, air, whatever! God is something that you dont have to see because you see all his creation, his power, his wisdom. If you say you dont you are a liar. Or do you not believe in liars either?

God, an imaginary friend for grownups?
Yeah, but not exactly. Organized religion was devised by people to control people. God does exist, but not within these fear based religions, God is in your heart. Good is good, bad is bad, and you can feel when you are right with your inner self.
Want PROOF? Try this:
Tomorrow you find someone that deserves help, or a kind word, and open yourself to them. If that doesn't make you feel good, really good, then I'll agree that there is no god.

People really don't change. When Jesus walked the earth, they said the same things you're saying, even tho they witnessed miracle after miracle that He performed, some people would never believe no matter what.
Jesus says "blessed are they who believe but do not see." He is alive and well and still does miracles today. He gives everyone a choice and will be sure that you hear about Him to make a choice as well. It sounds as if you've already made it tho.

I'm an atheist.
here's the reason why they still believe:
1. they are superstitious.
2. they are already "mind-controlled" by religion.
3. they are oppressed
4. they are believing their imagination.
5. they follow only what is said unto them.
6. they do like to be deceived (unconsciously!!)
I'm a 15 yr. old catholic. ans i don't believe in magics.
i open my mind to answers that will satisfy my curiosity, answers that has a tangible proof, answers that can satisfy a RATIONAL mind, answers that will lead to progress in every-ones lives, answers that RATIONAL in every LOGICAL sense.
"I find that those who abolish religion and "God" are more at one with nature and will accomplish alot more."
This is true. Because religion is a BLOCKAGE that ALTERS the FUNCTIONs of MEN and the PROGRESS OF SCIENCE.
Proof:
Galileo was house arrested, because of his opposing idea with a religious canon(official), COPERNICUS.
the Chatholic church did that because this idea will make people think and THE CHURCH WILL NOT BE FOLLOWED by people.
another proof:
read your history books because that is a legitimate evidence of KILLINGS, TORTURES and ATROCITIES MADE and PERFORMED by the CATHOLIC CHURCH. they BURNED witches, scientists and agnostics.
Governing Christianity is governing BLIND men.
Believing christianity is believing a LIE.
following Christianity is like willfully blindfolded and lead by another blind.
