The other day I answered a question about annoying mother-in-laws. I explained how my mother-in-law asked if I had anything to put on her yardsale. I gave her an outfit I did not like. Two years later she gave it back to me for my birthday. GiGi also answered the question and then proceeded to email me and tell me I was shallow and should be ashamed of myself. I don't have a problem with re-gifting if it's tasteful....what do you think? Just want to prove a point!

Never re-gift a present you've already used.
Never re-gift a present to the person who gave it to you.
Make sure you look for expiration dates before re-gifting.

If you don't give it to family because they may recognize the gift and you have a problem. I received a beautiful Crystal bowl, bought from a high end jewelry store, from my daughter's bf for Christmas which happened to be the first time I ever saw him! A couple of years later, I dug it out of the closet and sold it cheaply to my little old lady neighbor for a wedding gift for a member of her daughter's in-laws rich family. That bowl was much better used for her as a gift to give and be able to hold her head up than sitting in my closet. By the way, I never saw the bf again!

Regifting is fine, so long as you don't give someone something they gave you as a gift. We ALL get gifts which seem fine at the time, but later they end up stored in the box. Why not pass it on with the same love with which it was given....just be sure you don't step on any toes....like your mohter in law did...

Yeah...re-gifting is definitely inappropriate when you give someone something that they already gave to you. Low blow.

It's fine. Give it to someone who won't ever know the origins of it.
