Polygamy was practiced in times of old...and it certainly was practiced in biblical times. So yes it was accepted at times and was ordained by God ( Old Testament) but God has alway condemned homosexuality as far as I have ever read. BTW I find it interesting all the answers that say the polygamy was not practiced...has no one ever read the bible?

Most Christians are able to overlook the the bibles positive views of polygamy (Gen 4:19, 4:23, 26:34, 28:9, 29:26-30, 30:26, 31:17, 32:22, 36:2, 36:10, 37:2, Ex. 21:10, Judges 8:30, 1 Sam 1:2, 25:43, 27:3, 30:5, 30:18, 2 Sam 2:2, 3:2-5, 1 Chron 3:1-3, 4:5, 8:8, 14:3, 2 Chron 11:21, 13:21, 24:3) but can't overlook what they believe is disapproval for homosexuality.

Generally speaking, Christianity is against polygamy. The Apostle Paul stated at the following places that 'Men are to have one wife.' Granted, this is directed primarily to the Overseers of the congregations, but these Overseers were to prove to be examples, the ones that everyone else were to imitate. Thus, if they could only have one wife, then others should follow that example.
During the Mosaic time periods, before the birth of Christ, Polygamy was allowed by the Hebrew Law, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it was something that God provided. When he made Adam and Eve, he said that their mairaige should make them 'one flesh.' The man was to have his wife and love her and make her as his own flesh, and her him. This doesn't necessarily mean that polygamy is wrong in itself, but it can help support the reason why Polygamy was done away with in the Christian arrangement. God simply wanted one man for one woman, and one woman for one man.
As for homosexuality, that is condemned do to the words found at Leviticus 18:22, 20:13; Romans 1:26, 27, 32; 1 Corinthians 6:9, 10; 1 Timothy 1:9, 10. Now, realize that Leviticus is during the Mosaic Law times, and the law was done away with in the Christian arrangement, but the principle carried through into the Christian arrangement.
I realize that these may be found offensive by some people, and I apologize sincerely for that. I in now way am a hater, nor am I a judge. I love God and I love Humans, and whether you are gay, straight, muslim, jewish, whatever...just let it be said that these aren't my words. I love you all.

Polygamy produces new members for the sect faster than monogamy. Homosexuality produces none. That's why polygamy is tolerated.
The beginning of polygamy among the Mormons was a reaction to persecution by "normal" Christians, who, I believe, were jealous of the economic gains the Mormons made by focusing on cooperative work, rather than each family farming separately.
The Mormons were so persecuted by other citizens, so many Mormon men were killed by raiding neighbors, etc., that in order to continue the sect, somebody Mormon had a revelation that God intended for all the women to be married and producing children to continue the belief.
So the Mormon widows were married off to men still living, and the sect continued to prosper because their leaders pooled the group's assets, and made great economic progress. The men were sent to work on construction projects, building canals and towns and leveling land, and securing water to the desert of Utah. The women were given work to do, also.
The Mormons made such an oasis in the desert of Utah, that once other Americans caught up in the migration west, the Mormons were again persecuted, this time by the federal government, and polygamy was stopped.
And of those polygamous families, the men had to choose which wife and her children he could keep. The others were to be discarded, without support, either financial, physical, or spritual.
For some of the men, it was an impossible task to choose which child to love, which to deny. Some hid away, some immigrated to other countries.
For the most part, no more polygamous marriages happened. Of course, there are still fundamentalists who practice polygamy to this day.
Mohammed married an older, but rich, widow, and used her money to support himself while he wrote the Koran [Quran], because he believed the Jews were advancing more than Arabs because the Jews had a "Book" to teach ethnic cohesion.
Mohammed eventually had three other wives. So Muslims believe it is perfectly acceptable for a man to have as many wives as he can afford, up to four. Of course, he could divorce any wife in order to marry another woman; it's four wives simultaneously, not necessarily consecutively.

Where in the world did you get that from?! Mormons are not Christians, they're a cult. Christians don't ok polygamy. It was in the OT, but God did not condone it, just as He does not condone divorce except for adultery. He said people divorce b/c of the hardness of their hearts. He gets blamed for alot of things sinful man does. Homosexuality is an abomination to Him. There is no purpose to it. Homosexuals cannot be fruitful and multiply the earth. Homosexuals are living and believing a lie, and that's tragic. I do not look at homosexuals as less than hetrpsexuals, just deceived. You should really educate yourself before making such blanket statements. Actually, in this liberal world we find ourselves in today, anything goes but God and His children.

Christians are not "ok" with polygamy. Refer to the Book of Exodus 20.

When has this happened? Sources please!
This is a very weak argument since most Christians don't support polygamy.
Additional Details:
Are you asking if they Bible teaches polygamy and if Christians are okay with that? That is a different question.

In biblical times there was polygamy. It was to insure that all the females were provided for, they couldn't own property or inherit in their own right.
That was along time ago, modern day Christians have never excepted that practice. The Mormons used polygamy to grow in numbers. It was successful enough that it is no longer excepted.

Polygamy is NOT ok for Christians. That is why Catholics cannot marry a divorced person, or remarry if they are divorced, unless they receive a decree of nullity of the prior marriage(s).
Remarrying after divorce is adultery, polygamy is not allowed.
