actually I disagree. I think atheism would become the most violent of all beliefs if it was as wide spread as any of the major religions. After all if we are only animals why not rape , pillage , and plunder? If we are free to determine for ourselves what is right and wrong without a creator to guide us, then why should my perception of morality conform to yours. If I have no purpose but to exist for a short time, why not continue the survival of the fittest to mankind. I could take my neighbors wife and all his belongings. You say these things are against the law. Well are we not capable of changing the law or ignoring it. Mankind has done this before. Under atheism mankind would do it again.

Anyone who thinks that religions are bad, is missing alot.
The very basic concept of all the major religions is one small message. BE GOOD!
I will agree there have been violent religious groups who commit horrible crimes in the name of their God, but "Fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity". Even though zealot religious leaders will tell you they are fighting for a good cause, they are nothing more than warlords.
The differences between a true religious warrior and a fanatical maniac with a holy book, is the same difference that separates Osama Bin Laden from Ghandi.

On September 11, 2001 I was at work and several co-workers had gathered that morning outside our cafeteria to watch the world trade center on television. One elderly gentleman who was about to retire was there. I had just read in the company paper that he was planning to do some church work after he retired. As he stood there watching the burning buildings he said "religion did this" and I knew exactly what he meant. Once you cross that line where you believe something just because you want to, or just because enough people around you believe it, how do you then not keep doing that? Where's the point where reason and rationality kicks in again?
To paraphrase the little poster you see in offices:
You don't have to be religious to be crazy, but it helps.

Buddhism is a really non-violent religion. I remember once a person here at YA asked for an example of war and violence as a result of Buddhist violence. I had to really search to find one, and even then it was more an example of ONE Buddhist gone wrong.
Now if you're talking about Christianity and Islam then yeah, violence galore. Torture, violence, etc. They have all that good stuff.

Its the followers who choose to twist the religions to their own purposes of hate and violence! Its not the religions if you really must know study it instead of just listening to others.

the reason it fairly is knotted up is by using the fact they don't agree. LDS mom hit it real on the pinnacle in case you sort something to do with LDS or Mormon you will detect a good sort of illiberal hatemongers. The community surrounding the coaching of Jesus Christ in the recent testomony have been comparable. They resorted to very violent measures to silence Him. Evil has a tendency to be hateful, vengeful, conceited, and illiberal. i might inspire people to align themselves to companies who exhibit compassion, kindness and charity. it particularly is in elementary terms worry-loose experience to distance ourselves from communities who spew hatred, and criticisms.
