Like others I would say aikido. I've been training for six months in aikido and it's helped me feel more confident and get more fit. Our sensei is a little lady and she can just throw these big guys across the dojo with no effort at all. Very impressive! Aikido's not at all about picking fights but responding defensively to threats. Check out the site below for more info.

brazilian jiu jitsu because this allow you to fight while you're on your back which will eliminate the importantness of size. It use a lot of leverage which eliminate importance of size. Also all locks WILL work on anybody if apply properly. Plus the classes are usually very relaxed, laid back, and easy going. People in the classes usually are there to have fun instead of try to living up some weird myth fantsany. Also you will be grappling everyday which will help you gain more experience and learn faster, it's also a lot of fun and you'll get in really good shape fast ;-)

Don't listen to all grabages about how size doesn't matter. I've been a wrestler and currently am a Muay Thai fighter. believe me, size DO mean something, I am usually the lightest guy so I often get stuck with bigger opponent at the event and it SUCK! So striking (Muay Thai, karate, tae kwon do, kenpo, kung fu, etc...) isn't a great idea for you. Aikido isn't too reliable because it's more of a hit or miss. Plus if the person is bigger, aikido could put you in more risk because you would have to grab person while standing up and you shouldn't try grab or grapple with bigger person while standing up.

If there's no brazilian jiu jitsu in your place try judo. However many brazilian jiu jitsu gym also offer judo class, if they do, take it. It's ton of fun and very similar.

The fact is more people of small stature find them selves in a bad spot than larger folks.
Bully's tend to choose those that appear less able to defend them
selves as opposed to the biggest guy in the room.
Criminals tend to choose smaller, older, the disabled, & women for
the the same reason, they, like bullys, are cowards.
For this reason alone you should become involved in Martial
Arts.
We all cheer for the old woman who beats back an attacker
with a broom or umbrella, turning themselves from victim into
victor.
I hope you join a good school, train hard, & progress well.

*Martial Art skills are like a spare tire,...Rather to have it and not
need it, than to need it and not have it.*

Kenpo Karate, as well as many others, give a complete and
well rounded system for self defense in these modern times.

Look it is true that many (not all but on;y many) styles teach a system in which a smaller person is able to "hold their own" against a bigger person or multiple people. but i must say that what it sounds like you are wondering is "what style should i practice to make sure i can take out that creepy guy at the club if he follows me to my car?" right? well then you want to look at hapkido, some sort of kung fu (wing chun, chi lin, pa kua chuan) and/ or krav maga. all these styles teach people to defeat others with little energy or strength though each one takes years of hard work to become good at. push comes to shove allways have a can of mase around.

for small build frame, i think should learn akido n Taiji. These skill uses opponent strength against themselve and attack the weak point. To overcome your opponent uses mininum strength. No harm trying. Hee...

all martial arts are good.size never matters you can be the size of a smurf and still be able to take a bg person down. it is the size of your heart that matters.

Kenpo's good. I'm small and take kenpo. Dian Tanaka, who's small, is a kenpo instructor (among other things), is phenomenal and a champion forms competitor. Look her up.
