God made man(Adam) to rule over the fields, fowl, fish, hoofed animals, etc. He would not come as a being that was under the human level. That wouldn't work because man would not/could not listen to a an underling. Woman(Eve) was sent asman's (Adam's)helpmate and not to rule so that would not work. God knew exactly what to do. I don't question Him.

"sigh" so much vapidity, so little time. You make a lot of assumptions not based on facts. The Hebrew Scriptures were translated and copied very meticulously, errors were not an option. I suggest you do some studying about how the Old Testament was copied and translated. The Greek translation of the Old testament was the Septuagint which was the accepted text during the times of Christ. If it was good enough for Jesus and the apostles, it is good enough for me. The KJV used the Septuagint for its Old Testament.
Maybe we should take it literally, as history which is how it was written.
Jesus came as a human because humans had the sin problem, not bovines, canines or felines.

The problem with translating the Bible is not so much the words of the Aramaic, Hebrew and Greek languages but the cultural context in which they were written. Too many Christians equate modern day throught processes to those in an ancient culture from the other side of the world (for westerners, anyway). Additionally, they tend to rule out the human element, the presence of bias and honest mistakes.

Have you ever seen a cow or monkey talk? Think about it. When it says that he created men according to his image it means that that we are three. Body soul and spirit. Just like Jesus(body), God (Soul), and the Holy Spirit (spirit). Of course this are things you will not understand untill you come to God. even though the human mind would never understand complety God's mind. He is an all mighty God. God bless.

I always took that as to mean that God created us in the image that he wanted us to look like. no one has ever seen the true image of God. If you took that literally we would see a bunch of burning bushes running around. God, in my opinion, is more of a spiritual being, not really a solid mass. Therefore when the OT says that we were created in the image of God, it doesn't mean that we were meant to look like God, but rather the image that he had in mind for us.
This is strictly how I read into it. some may argue with me.

God created MAN in His image to have dominion over the earth. I've never seen a cow the CEO of a company driving a cadillac with a 401K. Man dominates the planet and all the animals.

Man being created in the image of God has nothing to do with physical appearance.
God is pure spirit and therefore has no physical form.
Being created in God's image means we are created to have the capacity to love and think as God does.

Being made in God’s image does not mean that humans were made so as to look like God, but, rather, that God put in the first humans the potential, the ability to exercise His own qualities. They became his children. And does not a son tend to act like his father, or a daughter like her mother? In fact, sometimes a son is so much like his father that he is called “a chip off the old block.” And so it should be with us. For recall that we are urged to “become imitators of God, as beloved children.” (Eph. 5:1)

We can be reasonably sure of the translations. Of course, they are not perfect.
I don't really understand you question, but the phrase "in his own image" in my understanding, doesn't have anything to do with what God physically looks like. I believe it is referring to his personality - his spiritual, emotional, intellectual, and philosophical attributes.
For example, part of that would be humanity's drive to create. God is creative, and he made man to be creative.

Actually, most translations today are rather good. Some nuances are always going to be lacking in translation.....
Anyways, I think that you are confused by what theologians mean by created in God's image and likeness......it has to do with reason and creative power for the most part......
But, I dont think your looking for real reasons.
