the correct spelling is SPAYED. It does not usually calm the animal down. It keeps male dogs from wanting to roam but doesn't change females usually

I had both of mine spayed and it didn't calm them down. It is actually supposed to stop them from roaming which was my main goal. So far it has worked but they are still trouble makers. Spaying also makes them larger in size since they don't have to worry about keeping a uh, supply shall we say. My dogs nicknames are the Thrasher Twins. Do not expect miracles, you may not get them but every dog reacts differently. Good Luck!! DOGS RULE!!

A good decision! Any behavior that is caused by hormones will definitely diminish. Spaying won't affect the dog's basic temperament - if she is a high-energy dog, she'll stay that way. But she'll have fewer health risks, and you won't have the problem of walking a female dog in heat and having every male dog who is being walked at the same time lunging on his leash, trying to get at your dog.
