I think it's because the world nowadays is so "civilized" and we don't want to admit that religion gets us so worked up. But in reality, there are few things that will get a person steamed up more than religion. Right now, especially, most of the wars going on in the world center around religion. Even outside the Middle East with the wars between Islam and Christianity/Judiasm - look at Ireland!

But anyway, if we admit that religion gets us worked up, we have to admit there's a God. And if we admit there's a God, we have to admit that we're accountable to Someone and that there's absolute right and wrong. That scares most people!

The reason why religious people deny religion is a cause of war and blame everything else is for the same reason why you believe war is caused by religion and not by anything else.

let me try to answer that with a question-why do atheists try to pretend that there is no evil in this world and that "religion" is to blame for everything that goes wrong? this strikes right at two claims that atheists LOVE to make...#1, they look at things in a logical and analytic manner... but they keep parroting this "religion is the cause of all evil" tripe, having been fooled by 'God made me do it" claims...if there was an all atheist jury at the Son of Sam trial, they would have convicted the dog and given Berkowitz lifetime passes to Disneyland...#2, atheists love to spout off about personal responsibility..but they refuse to assign blame for evil to the people DOING the evil...it kind of reminds me of flip wilson running around saying 'the devil made me buy this dress'

all the things that you named are the cause of war. and religion has been corrupted by all those things as well. the crusades were not about religion. they were about stealing vast amounts of land to extend the christian empire. greed is guised in religion to make war seem altruistic. it's the corruption of religion. not religion itself that is responsible for war.

For not believing in any type of "god", atheists sure do spend a LOT of time b i t c h i n g and moaning about it. This guy asking the question spends ALL of his time doing it.

It's my opinion that when someone continuously tries to attack someone elses beliefs, it's because deep down inside they know they have done something that goes totally against those beliefs and they are in fear of their final judgement. So they try to deny those beliefs, and by doing that, they try to deny that they are themselves tainted and damned (according to those beliefs).
