I've been working with Microsoft Picture It! for quite awhile now, and I think I'm ready for an upgrade. I really want to edit photos and make decent icons and wallpapers. I'm on a budget and I know most software costs alot these days. I've researched but can't seem to find the right one. I do have my eye on Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0. Please help me out!

You can download Gimp for both Windows and Mac.

It looks potentially overwhelming at first, but it's not that complicated.

Go here:
http://gimp-win.sourceforge.net/stable.html

Then download both The GIMP for Windows and GTK+ 2 Runtime Environment..

You then need to install the latter first. You won't have to do anything, just double click on the file. And next you install Gimp.

It has features like Photoshop, but it's free.

Gimp is good enough for every movie since "Titanic - 1997" on Linux Clusters (FREE OS! virus proof, hacker free) and, it runs on other platforms. Loved the special effects it gave to all the 'Pirates'
movies!
