I don't have anything against Christians. But, I think that a lot of people don't like Christianity because a few bad people have given it a bad name. So, all Christians have become lumped in with this belief to some extent.

Reasons some people don't like "Christians"...

The FACT that Christians want control, NOT love, over ALL people. The FACT that Christians think they have all the answers. The FACT that high-ranking people in the Christian movement are some of the richest and most corrupt people on the ENTIRE PLANET -- and that's seriously warped.

The FACT that Christians are, more often than not, uneducated, close-minded, obsessive-compulsive FOLLOWERS with no actual awareness of what a truly personal relationship with Christ actually even means. If they DID, they'd realize that a personal and satisfactory relationship would be through prayer and service, not through following some profiteering CULT that encourages hatred and judgement against anyone who doesn't follow this grand religion, and if you think that's a lie, look closer-- no really, LOOK CLOSER. MOST Christians have a high and mighty attitude based on cheap judgements, that is only matched by their unwillingness to question the fierce re-editing of the Bible to suit the uses of those who are promoting it.

All things considered, I DO NOT WANT AND WILL NOT ACCEPT a "Holy Bible" or any other Holy Document that has the words "Blah Blah Blah VERSION" on the cover. If it really IS the WORD of GOD, then I want the original, unedited, untampered, as-close-to-accurate interpretation into English as humanly possible. I do not want "versions" and missing passages and buried scrolls and endless reinterpretations...

And a religion that serves the people does not equate a telethon, a selling of baubles or trinkets, or any other fund-raising medium to grant profit to anyone other than those less fortunate than us. Anything else is greed and therefore completely incompatible with Christ's teachings.

I personally never needed money to pray -- do YOU?

If your fellowship (your local church) requires you to spend money on your church, then do it. But these massive media campaigns on these Billion (Yes, billion) dollar church empires are as scary as they are comedic.

IF Christians want respect, they'd better start acting like Christ taught them to act, but that would be really inconvenient, because it would require a huge amount of humility and sacrifice, and for the average follower, they'd suffer MORE...

For example-- the Vatican has more gold than Fort Knox, and there are still starving people in Italy. Some sick, encased-in-a-bubble, protected "deity" isn't going to convince me that they are serving Christ while their own countrymen starve to Death.

But these are only things I have read... Personally, I have no particular opinion on the matter...

I do feel that you can do your best to hear what is being said when you read the Bible and read between the lines, and if the LEAST you get out of it is that you really DO USE the "Golden Rule", then you are miles ahead of the pack. Christ's message is there for those actually quiet enough to be able to hear it, and for those of you who truly are devoted worshippers and REAL Christians, I am sorry you have to suffer the harsh criticisms brought on by your false fellow followers... Faith IS its own reward...

:)

Well I`m not really "doggin on them" except for right now. Just no one get mad because all of the following only applies to a select few Christians. A lot of people refer to them as "the Jesus Freaks" some Christians go around judging every other religion and thinking its wrong and they`re right no matter what. When you think about it, its ignornant because no one can prove any religion. In reality, faith means nothing. It means a lot to you of course, but, for example, it doesn`t matter if I have faith that its going to rain tommorrow. It won`t change the facts, and it probablly won`t change many people`s opinion about tommorrow`s weather. I have NOTHING against any religion or faith, but I strongly believe against trying to force your beliefs on others. Of course this goes for all religions, not just Christianity. I think faith is a great thing, but people have to realize that other people might not have faith in the same things they do and that doesn`t mean they`re going to hell. Faith doesn`t mean you`re right, it means you believe you`re right. I believe that all religions are a possiblity. I do believe in a certain one, but I also know that its not positively right, and the chances of any religion being 100% right are microscopic.

Well, let's see, could it be because they think they are better than other people because they say they believe a whole slew of things for which there is no evidence?

Or maybe it's that they think they are smart because they know lots and lots of details of a collection of stories that are for the most part warmed over legends and myths from other cultures?

Or perhaps it's some of their ridiculous ideas such as it doesn't matter what terrible things I did prior to last week because that's when I was born again.

Or maybe it's that there seem to be a lot of contradictions in their beliefs, like killing a cluster of a few undifferentiated cells is "murder" but executing hundreds of people even though history has shown some of them are innocent is "justice".

Or they proclaim to be Christians but they seem to ignore almost everything Jesus said except for the part about them living forever.

Do you think those things just might get on thinking people's nerves?

Some of them are just super annoying. It's like the black stereotype thing. I know not all black people are criminals...but it's the few that are that keep the stereotype strong, which kinda sucks. Well it's the same for religion, there are those few christians that are telling people that christianity is the best and telling other people what they are doing is against the teachings of the religions...and that's what's giving them a bad name.

I find christianity to be rather elitist, and I have found many to be arrogant because they believe that me being a non christian, is going to end up in hell. hahah what a load of crap!!!! If someone is christian, I have no problem, I have grown up in a multi religious part of the world(India) but when they go on to say that majority of the world is damned, and yet they preach that 'their' god is all about love.
My uncle is christian and he puts it like this "if my son is a drug addict, would I not want to send him to a rehab clinic?" fair enough, but would you send him to a high security rehab prison and keep him in solitude confinement for ever more?? there is no love their.
also I don't really like how christians go around the world as missionaries. I commend them for helping the less fortunate but I don't like how it is that they will help but only if they are able to preach their religion to them. I learnt recently that mother teresa would only help if the individual was willing to be taught the bible! my respect towards her took a severe beating.
everyone can be brainwashed and I feel that this is what they do to a large extent. if you look at my questions you'll see an answer that I got from a girl who's boyfriend has finally converted her after six years. now I consider myself to be fairly strong minded but I don't know if I'd be able to think for myself if for six years I was in an environment that was attempting to alter my thoughts.
I seriously wonder about this, christianity likes to start with someone as young as possible. now everyone knows that a child is 100% vulnerable to suggestion. so I wonder if that child was not preached to as a child, was allowed to grow up with out any religious teaching (not that they would be unruly) and come the age of 20 or 22 start teaching them all the religions with the purpose of them deciding for them selves, not being force fed anything. would they still be a christian?????
lastly I feel that a large majority of christians have been only exposed to christianity and been told incorrect 'facts' about other religions, thus leading them to look down on others. i don't feel that's right.

Not everyone who says they are a Christian is Christian. To be Christian means to be " CHRIST LIKE" People dog the religion because there are so many hypocrites in the world who claim to be Christian and people can see right through them " Fony"
and the other reason...... Real Christians are hated for the same reason Jesus Christ was hated, "ignorance and fear" people are afraid of what they don't understand. Jesus said those who suffer with him will also rein with him. If the world hated Him how can Christian expect the wold to love them? Not so, Jesus forewarned Christian that they would be hated by the world.

I don't have anything against Christians over all, it's just the rare few who stand on the corner handing out bibles and the random people talking about the rapture and says "Have you accepted Jesus into your life?", and when you say no they say you're going to hell (true story, happened to me at work)...those are the Christians I have a problem with, besides that, nothing the majority I know are very nice people :)

I have nothing "against" Christians. What worries me is the political activism that is trying to pass such laws as Marriage Protection Act, the Flag Burning Amendment, the requirement to teach creationism in public schools, the efforts to install prayer in public schools, the apologies from churches for torture and war, and the intrusion of the state on private procreation decisions. When the church/Christians step in to tell me that I'm not just going to hell but I'm going to jail for living my life the way I want, that I can't have equal civil rights, and that my children are going to be forced to hear religion in science class, you bet I'm going to raise a stink.

Questions like this tend to bring out the ignorant answers like "All Christians are dumb" (as if there are no dumb people in every other religion). This intellectual elitism is usually not based on any statistics. It's just a not-too-well-thought-out cop out. They don't understand what causes them to do this, but people have been doing this in debates since the beginning of time.
