The Department of the Navy requires all applicants to have either a H.S.D. or G.E.D... the Marines are a part of the Department of the Navy...
I think that the Army is the ONLY US Military service that allows enlisting without one of these.... and... they REQUIRE you to take GED classes after you join... if you fail to complete them you get discharged.
It may have changed since I was looking at the requirements last year.

Look, it used to be that a judge could get you enlisted as part of a probationary sentence. Now, they want you to have a piece of paper. Former 2nd Mar. Div. is here to tell you, that as soon as all hell breaks loose, and it will, you'll see Marine recruiters on playgrounds. You can take this or leave it. If you get a GED, why not try college? In college you see women daily, in the Marines you get Dan Daily;}

I'm a retired Navy Corpsman (we go with the Marines as medical, they don't have their own. Before you get cocky, remember that Marine Stands for My A** Rides in Navy Equipment)
That being said, no. You need a GED.
That being said, I've seen recruiters do a lot of screwed up things to get a grunt in. Go talk to your local recruiter. He might make your GED really easy.

My friend in order to join the US Marines you will need at least a GED. You will need to stay out of trouble and get squared away and consult with a recruiter. I know this because I am a former Marine.

Believe it or not, a diploma or GED is actually waiverable if your ASVAB scores are high enough to where it's obvious that you can accomplish the GED after entering (I'm unsure of the exact cutoff requirements). With the Marines, almost anything is waiverable except for a pulse :)

smaud25 is right as long as you score high on the asvab you can enlist. they have a form saying that you attended 12 years of school. once in you can attend school to obtain your diploma. i did it without a diploma or a GED.but then i did score a 120 on the asvab when the minimum score with out a diploma was 50. talk to a recruiter, take the asvab and see where you stand.good luck...

If you dint have the fortitude to get a HSD or a GED you are too much a mental pansy to survive the USMC. Get the degree you lazy SOB. And don't contaminate the USMC until you are worthy of being one yourself.

I'm ex-Navy. Your recruiter can give you an ASVAB test (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery). If you score high enough your High School equivalencey can be waived and you could make it up later.
