My preacher explained to me that they are not a sin. Yes, I have one and I am a christian and go to church regularly. Yes, its shows at church sometimes, and if some one wants to judge me based on the fact that I have a tattoo then they are the ones who need help. He also told me that the bible says you are not to mark your body in honor of others, like writing peoples names on your body. By the way the same preacher who explained it to me, well his son is covered in tattoos. Hope this helps!!

The only time tattoos show up in the Bible is in the Old Testament, when Jews are forbidden to have them. The idea was to keep the Jews outwardly different from their neighbors as a sign of holiness unto the Lord. Anything "weird" that their Gentile neighbors did was usually a taboo to the Jews. I don't know that many modern Jews or Christians base their opinions regarding tattoos on this Old Testament passage though.

No.
Why would putting decorations on your body be a sin?
Some Christians might treat people with tattoos as though they're creeps (ahem, my mother for example), which shouldn't happen. Christians should love everyone, not just that guy over here, and "oh, I don't like him 'cuz he's got tattoos"
However, tattoos are like any artform. They can be used to depict bad things or good things, and the potential tattooed person should use descretion as to what he puts on his body.

My minister said that even though there was no specific reference to tattoos in the Bible that we can find, he said tattoos were a sin because God spoke directly to him. He also said that when a person gets a blessing of the word from him then it was right for me to give a free will offering.
Dang these free will offerings are getting expensive, maybe I should just save my tithe and free will offerings and stay stupid.

Read on.....................
a) Sin means an act that is against the defined principles and laws of sprituality which causes negatives Karma implications for you.
b) Your body is just physical means to live this life and its material state has no relevance for goodness of adversity toward sprituality. Only directive that sprituality demands is to take care of physical well-being in a manner that supports you to accomplish spritual goals.
c) Tatoo is just an act of expression, an art. Only negative impact I could think of is using this expression to strengthen any evil ideas and reinforce one's evil thinking. Even then, its not the tatooing that is sin, rather its the act of indulging into mental state of evil thinking that will be sin.

If you believe the Holy Bible is God's thoughts then here is a Scripture of what He said about it:
Leviticus 19:28
Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I [am] the LORD.

I have a friend who believes they are sinful as you are not supposed to "defile" the body of Christ, and God made us in his image.
Personally, I'm not that worried about a person's tattoos...

I'm not sure i understand how they could possibly be sinful but perhaps if its like a really dirty picture or goes against whatever religion you are or should be or whatever. I've seen plenty of dirty, disrespectful tattoos. I find them humorous.

I don't believe it' a sin ... but instead a very bad choice. It makes you look under educated and can effect future relationships and employment.

Tatoos trace back to enslaving and branding yourself.
Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit and the Bible does say we should not get them.
