Here is a pretty good description for you:
Scientology is an applied religious philosophy. When I say "applied" I mean you actually use it in your life to change or improve existing conditions. This is different from a religious practice. All religions if you learn about them have a basic philosphy, but they also have certain dogma, rituals and observances, and a certain faith or belief is required. There is nothing wrong with this, but Scientology is not that kind of religion. It does not intrude on anyones faiths of beliefs particularly in the area of God , the Supreme Being, or the Infinite. This area is left totally up to the indivdual, which is why you can be a practicing Jew,for example and still use and apply the priniciples of Scientology in your life. It does not conflict. If anything it will enhance your understanding of your chosen religious practice.
You can have no specific religious beliefs and still benefit from using it.
And it is only true for you according to your own observation and experience with it.
It is a non denominational religion . The dictionary definition that applies:
Religion: The spiritual or emotional attitude of one who recognises the existence of superhuman power or powers.
The most basic principle of Scientology is that YOU are your own immortal soul, that this is not a "thing" you HAVE but what YOU actually are.
The whole purpose of Scientology is to increase an individual's understanding and awareness of himself. And thereby his native abilities .
When you do this the sphere and zone of his positive influence increases and moves outward into his life, his family ,his friends, his groups and mankind which he is part of.
How this result is achieved is the "technology" of Scientology, which was developed by L.Ron Hubbard after his extensive research and the discoveries he made, about the human spirit. The basic religious philosophy and knowledge of Scientology is very old, going back 10,000 years at least to the Veda or Vedic Hymns from the East. The developement of the technology is new.
He completed his research before his death in 1986 and left all of his results and copyrights
to the Church of Scientology along with most of his considerable estate., when he died.
He published a book in 1951 to communicate the basic principles he discovered called: " Scientology The Fundementals of Thought"
There are currently over 8 million Scientologists in more that 150 countries world wide. However we are a new religion, only 55 years old.
The true story of Scientology as a religion goes like this:
1. A philosopher developes a philosophy about life and death.
2. People find it interesting.
3. People find it works.
4. People pass it along to others.
5. It grows.
By the way there is nothing secret about it. The whole subject is available in books, taped lectures, articles etc.(check the local library for basic books).
Also you are welcome to go into any Scientology Church or Mission to find out more about it. There are free introductory
services and plenty of people to answer your questions.
Where did you get the idea that it was secret ?
Quite the opposite actually.

Just google it...it is really too unbelievable. I am usually very accepting of others religious beliefs, but this is one that doesn't really qualify as a religion in my opinion. The wackiest of their beliefs that I heard of is some sort of purification process where you drink a lot of cooking oil and take a crap load of niacin. Oh, and it helps if you have lots of money, because you will need tons of it, if you ever want to achieve the top levels in the church. And whatever you do....don't ever take one of their free personality tests....( I did years ago. Big mistake, just a way of recruiting new blood. Luckily though I wasn't rich enough for them)

It's a fake religion, created by a Sci-Fi book novelist L. Ron Hubbard. It's noted that the entertainers who are part of the organization have been blackmailed into to serving and gathering members as recruiters. Unlike other religions, one has to pay to get to higher levels. They tell their members that pain is only in the mind, and several Hooke-pokiee stuff. Also they believe they are aliens here to observer humans on earth; how weird.

I know that they don't belive in drugs like if you are ADD you don't need drugs to get over it or to control it.
They also think that when a woman gives birth it should be quite. No noise at all.
You have to go around an jump on couch's. Oh wait that was just Tom Curise.
It was a religion that was created by a Sci Fi writter. I think it was cause his books sucked and so he created a religion to get money that way.
Scientology is not a religion at all.

Because it is quite odd. From what I understand, these folks believe they are descended from and going to return to aliens from outer space. They are quite sure the mother ship will return to collect their descendants to see what they have done and take them back home. L. Ron Hubbard started it some 20 years or so ago. If you really want to know more, check out things to do with him and his books. Good question!!

It is a religion none the less, it is a belief that thousands of years ago a vile lord named Xenu shot billions of aliens into a volcano then sent a hydrogen bomb on it and the spirits of the aliens caused us to have depression and sadness( their spirits attached themselves to us).

It's a cult and they made you spend money for their books and classes to reach their state of "Clear". It's not a good religion, but a cult. Many people have died from it. Check this site out at: http://www.whyaretheydead.net/ and http://www.xenu.net/
