Islam was founded by a seriously disturbed man (apologies to all Muslims). I do not mean to offend anybody, but if you read an unbiased story of Mohammed, it's a pretty ugly picture.
That being said, I know that there are many good, peace-loving, very God-centered Muslims. Islam has fractured into so many sects (much like Christianity) that you cannot give a single opinion which covers all of them. Everybody knows about the terrorists. And I think there is a lot in Islam which promotes this kind of behavior. But there are so-called Christian terrorists as well (Arian Nation).
Niev,
Islam was most certainly not around before Christianity. It began in the seventh century. How else could Jesus and Mary be in the Quran?
To clear something up - the crusades were not Christian terrorist acts. Islamists perpetrated those wars by barbarically slaughtering innocent Christians and taking over the Holy Land by force. The crusades were attempts to retake that region for those who rightfully belonged there, and to stop the persecution (read: execution) of Christians and Jews.

Though I come from a Christian background, I believe that Mohamed had lots of good things to say.
Regarding Muslims, I have known a few and liked them all. They were polite, cordial, thoughtful and the kind of people that I like to hang out with.
I worked with several Muslims on a Habitat for Humanity house and they were bright and industrious people.
I am rather sure that we will be in heaven together but I don't want the 72 virgins because I hear that they have lots of problems and I have enough problems with one wife of 40 years.
Finally, there are some nutcases in every religion, culture, bowling league, union hall, city hall, state government, or motorcycle group. Not too many but too many.

Oi, it is not a terrorism promoting religion. The Qaran even says that it is not right to kill another person, and you cannot get into "Heaven" if you do so. Also, who knows if their religion is right or not? It was around before Christianity! We don't know what religion is right, therefore nobody can say another religion is wrong! WE DONT EVEN KNOW IF RELIGION IS RIGHT!!! they don't believe Jesus was the son of god. SO WHAT!? They were there, they know. You (Christians) Were not there, and the first copy of the bible was written 500 years after the lunatic you all worship died. Who knows, at least for all of you the story of Jesus was twisted and exaggerated to make him sound like some kind of god. I'm pretty sure, also, that Mary lied and said that Jesus was god so that she wouldn't get killed, because she would have if they'd known Joseph was his father.

Each religion deserves respect. Islam is a large religion, and I think all religions teach their believers to be a kind and friendly person, and to live in peace with the other ppl.
Terrorists r not real devoted believers of the islam, they just use this religion as an excuse to justify their villainies and crimes! They misinterpret the real sense of islamic teaching!
That's what I think.

I believe that Islam is a wonderful religion and that it is unfortunate that some fruitcakes are exploiting it and using it as a reason to murder and terrorize people. Idiots are the problem, not Islam. My mother is Jewish and my father is Christian. I have been exposed to many religions since it was my parents wanted us to be able to choose our own religions. There are always going to be ignorant people, regardless of their religion.

I DON'T THINK ABOUT ISLAM.
I don't judge a religion that I have never had anything to do with or know anything about.
A person would have to be crazy to believe that they have to kill for God..... and at the same time I would say.... If you worship a God that needs help killing people.... then it isn't a God that you are worshiping because God is suppose to be almighty. He can kill his enemies if he chose to do so... by himself.
It is "MAN" that interprets scriptures and say "God Said Kill", that has the greater condemnation but then again, he is only adding fuel to a fire that is already burning through hatred that was put there in the heart of man by the devil.
If you read the old testaments of the bible carefully, you would see that it was God Almighty that killed the enemy with only a little help from his people.
But I see your point in your question.....
Peace be with you friend.

I honestly don't know a great deal about Islam, so my opinions are not exactly informed ones. But here goes....
I find it curious that, intellectually speaking, the evolution of Islamic thought throughout much of the world has not progressed past, say, the thirteenth century. At that time the Islamic world was the world's center of knowledge and learning (at the same time, Europe was struggling to rise out of the Dark Ages). Since then, there has been (at least to me) very little in the way of great contributions to world knowledge. Masterful works of art and literature? Scientific advances? Important philosophical treatises? Perhaps I have missed something, but if I have then my own educational training has been woefully inadequate - and I was a history major in college and currently teach world history.
I am deeply troubled by the fact that thousands of Muslim youth have committed themselves to self-sacrifice by means of suicide bombings and participation in violent military organizations. I believe that human life ought to be treated as a sacred gift from God and that life in all its manifestations among men ought to be respected form conception to natural death. Islam (at least certain strands of it) does not uphold this moral truth.
I appreciate the Five Pillars. I think that they bring out the best in people. I believe that conscientiously upholding the Five Pillars in one's life leads to paradise. I am not the kind of Christian who insists that my path to heaven is the only one - I accept that God has spoken to humankind "at many times and in various ways" (Hebrews 1:1) and that there may be more than one path to salvation.
Those are my thoughts.

Christian fundementalists tend to take things too far... hmm think of the CRUSADES or the conflict in Ireland.

I don't think that Islam is a religion that promotes terrorism, I think that fundamentalists ruin the good name of that religion. Fundamentalists give a bad name to the religion they follow (I mean any religion)
