Well then its just someone being annoying. Call your phone company and ask them to block the number. We did that one time.

You're asking this question with the screen name you chose?! Somebody is possibly playing a prank. The most logical thing to do is tell the "breather" you have notified the phone company to put a trace on the call, and then call the phone company and do so. Heck, if Bush can do it for National Security, you should be able to do it for personal safety. Also call your local police and ask for some extra "house checks" in the next couple of weeks. They drive by your house and check for possible prowlers. Let your neighbors know what's going on.
Keep a notebook by the phone, and each time "Breather" calls after you told him/her about the phone company the one time, say, "Got that?" into the phone, and hang up, noting date and time of the call. Don't tell Breather you are documenting everything, just do it.
I'm sure it will stop after a few unsatisfying, unemotional hangups on your part. Plus you have made some moves to protect yourself just in case. Oh, and have someone from the police department check your house for level of security, locks, windows, etc. They'll do it in my city - no charge. Sort of - secure houses, no dead bodies, less cases, more time for the ones they have. So they do it for free.

It is a serious federal offense to use a telephone to harrass in any manner. You have a phone number or can *69 to get it again. It may be a pay phone although those are disappearing. In any case, the phone company can place a monitor on your line for up to two weeks at a time, renewable. The cops will want to know and the FBI may work on this directly or at the local cops' request.
You DEFINTELY need to get this stopped since you don't know the mind-set of the caller. just stay calm and calculating. DON'T try to get a conversation started, if there is this heavy breathing try to pick up on background sounds, don't stay on the line lower than the phone company or the cops tell you to. IF the caller says something, the phone company will have a recorder going and they CAN match the voice pattern to everyday traffic calls. Yes, I know where that has been done. Electronics is a total marvel in solving crime--and that is what you are dealing with here.
Enough help? Just don't try to solve it yourself. The caller is breaking the law and you pay for telephone service and support your local cops with your taxes. Both are your allies and protectors. THEY TOO WANT TO GET THIS PERSON STOPPED!!!!!

Since this has happened several times, it sounds like it not accidental. This is either someone you know "playing pranks" or someone harassing either you or someone else at your number.
Try the following:
1. Write down each incident, no matter what happens when they call. Include the date and time of each, and what was said on each end.
2. Try getting the phone company to block that phone number. Just remember that if this person is determined, he or she will find another number to call from.
3. Pay attention to everything you do. Make sure you have safety measures in play at all times, and do not be too predictable.
4. Call the police to make a report so they will at least know that something is going on in case something else happens. They will not do anything unless there is a previous record of harassment.
5. Don't forget to communicate with your mother anything you know about this situation, and do anything she asks of you to do so she will know you are safe, such as calling to check in with her before you leave one place or another (depending on your age).
6. If you do discover someone is trying to play games with you, be sure to let them know this is NOT a game. Too many people live their lives in fear from stalkers for kids to be playing "prank calls" on people.
I hope this ends soon for you without incident.
May God be with you.

It's either someone who knows you and is messing with you head or someone who doesn't know you and is messing with your head. Next time it happens, *69 and write down the phone number - contact the phone company and see if you can have the number blocked from your phone. If it happening a lot, talk with the phone company about if you have the right to press charges of harassment or even get a restraining order.

Don't worry, it's probably just a prank caller! Next time though, do the *69 and write the # down, then call them back, but be sure to use *67 before you dial the #....then when they answer blow a whistle into the receiver. Maybe after that they will stop.
Good luck! :)

If you can't find out by yourself who is calling then call the phone company. They should be able to find out the number and then block it. If it continues to happen I would contact the police because it could be a stalker. Stalkers are dangerous and you could be in danger. It could also be someone just messing with you. Either way I say better safe that sorry.

The person on the other end is possibly gratifying themselves while you try to get them to respond. Get yourself an Acme Thunderer whistle and blow it into the phone. They will not call again.
If your mom found out the number of the caller, you can have the phone company deal with them for their prank calls...or the police.

have your phone tracked by your local phone company or the local police. This person calling could be a stalker, and even if there's 1 in a million of chance this stalker is crazy, if there's something u could do about it, then do it. The sooner the better. And I'm hoping very very soon.

you can call your phone company and block the caller. it's probably some stupid guy that you know trying to piss you off and scare you. you can also try using reverse caller id to get the person's home address but that costs money. also you could just call the police and have them deal with it. if you have the number on caller id, you could just call them from a different phone number at a random time to see who it is.
