Well, I've got a news flash for you...Alcohol IS a drug. So if you are drinking a beer or even just a glass of wine, you are doing drugs.
Frankly, I don't care if you have never gotten high on anything in your life, or you smoke crack while chugging a bottle of whiskey and shooting up meth. It's your life, and your choice. I just have a low tolerence for hypocrites.
And please, don't give me that crap that just because alcohol is LEGAL, that makes it perfectly ok. I am addicted to nicotine which is perfectly legal....but that STILL makes me a drug addict.
That's why I don't put other people down for what THEY do.

There are many things that can be 'mood altering' including food.
In American culture there is such a sick disparity in which drugs are legal and which are not... the policy of arresting and locking up 'drug' users has reached a crazy level... so many lives are warped and ruined by our crazy policies... First there are all kinds of so called legal drugs they push at you and then they ban just a few others and lock you up and throw away the key...that is a nutty policy.... I think there is a big difference between grass and any of the white powders and with the liquid form (alcohol) ...each substance changes the body chemistry in a different way and has after affects as the body trys to re balance. I could say more but it is late and I need to get to bed. I hope this is the kind of answer you are looking for. check out some of the questions I asked and answered about AA if you are bored and have the time.

Though I do agree with you that alcohol is a drug, a depressant actually, it's nothing at all like popping 3-4 sudafeds. People drink alcohol recreationally, it distorts their perception... mine too, I'm no hypocrite, I drink all the time. People take sudafed to treat symptoms of an illness, like a fever, cold, or flu. It's like comparing apples to oranges.
And obviously comparing alcohol to crystal meth is a bit of a stretch... it can be addictive and even degenerative, but nowhere near the degree as with hard core drugs like meth, coke, heroin, etc.

Ya but the trouble with drug addicts is they'll do anything to get their next fix. Like kill innocent people in gas stations or convenience stores. Run in gangs to have territory to sell drugs so they can do more drugs. It's a severely deadly cycle mostly for non drug users being the victims of drug users. Drunks only drink and drive and kill innocent people which is deadly serious in another way as they can plead stupidity and get off.

It sounds like, under your definition, any mind-altering substance is a drug. When people use the term "drugs" they are generally referring to "narcotics." Yes, alcohol is a "drug," so are all medications, but I doubt you would care if someone said "I don't do drugs," and was taking Claritin D. You are squabbling over a misused term, not hypocrisy!

Yep. hypocrites. I smoke weed. But I don't drink. having done both I can make an educated decision about them.

And I will simply say this.....have you been around a drunk person? Have you woken up puking, not knowing what you did the night before? There ya go.

Yes, alcohol is a drug. A very addictive DRUG.
If you repeatedly drink more than you intend or want to, if you get into trouble, or if you have memory lapses when you drink, you may be an alcoholic. If you want to drink that is your business, if you want to stop that is A.A's business. We all are dying but, you can stop killing yourself.

That's great for you. We all have addictions. Being drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, or religion. To much of one thing could be bad for you.

No, but I've got a Samuel Adams Hefeweizen right here. I think I'll go tell my wife, "well, at least I don't do drugs!"
