hi, i am from san diego, and got married here 2 years ago. fortunately, i didn't have to pay for the reception, but everything else my husband and i paid for ourselves, and we did it for under a thousand dollars. we got married in the rose garden in balboa park (in october so the roses we still in bloom). that was less than $50. The minister we hired to marry us was around $125-150. she was AMAZING! i've referred her to many people who all loved her. flowers for myself, my maid of honor, 5 boutineres, 4 corsages, and roses for the rose ceremony we did was like 300 i think. we bought invitations from michaels and printed them ourselves. my husband's tux was between 100-150. the photographer was about 200, and you can always get dresses on sale at davids bridal. if you have questions, email me! :) good luck & congratulations!

Don't go crazy inviting the whole world. Its an intimate thing, only invite those closest to you instead of who you think should be there or who you think you need to invite to avoid hurt feelings. As someone who is now divorced, I look back on what we spent on our wedding, its only one day and half (or more) of the people who were there are not a regular part of our lives. This will definitely save you some $$. Ask friends & family if they know people who do photography or catering. Other than that, check the internet for things such as wedding favors or times of the year when prices are a bit lower. Hope this helps.

Elope is always my favorite answer but is for me and not everyone else. I have had the misfortune of planning a very large wedding, hating every minute of it, and then leaving 4 weeks before the actual date. I do really like the idea of going somewhere beautiful, just the two of you, or your very closest family\friends and then come back with your beautiful wedding pics and have an all out shin dig to celebrate. It saves a lot of money that way.

It's pretty easy to come in at WELL under $10,000 if you know where to look. When it comes to flowers and decorations, it's best to try and do as much as possible yourself. Check out these sites for some crafty ideas:

I planned my wedding while my husband was overseas, and when he returned he helped me with the rest of it, so to save money we had a family friend make the wedding cake and considered it her gift to us, our families did the cooking and what the couldn't do we had catered, we also made our own table centerpieces and my sister in law made our wedding favors.
We bought an invitation kit from staples. Just a few thoughts! We loved our wedding.
Best of Luck

A good cheap decorating tip is wedding tulle and you can find it for very cheap. Draping tulle over eye sores in cheaper reception spots or over the whole place can turn a drab reception hall into a wedding haven. Adding white lights would be another inexpensive decorating idea.

Wait for sales, forget the frills, and fancy things. They don't make the marriage last any longer than a simple wedding would.

spend more on food and location, try not to spend so much on your dress as much as you want too, it will save you money:) and try to do as much as you can on your own or from the help of family and friends it also make it more personal.

Keep it simple and only invite those you have to such as parents and grandparents. That's what I just did and we saved $20,000. We only spent about $2000.
