Our daughter was only breastfed for about 6 months also.
She has always been at the top of the class and is already taking some classes at a higher grade level.
Don't worry too much about breastfeeding and just make sure your daughter gets a good balanced diet.
Start reading stories to her in a few months.
Talk to her often. Play with her often.
That is some of the recipe for having a great child.
Good Health and Good Luck.
Peace

Oh my gosh. This is the second time I heard this. WHERE did this come from. I have 5 children and they were only breastfed for 3 months. All of them are A-B students in school, active in sports and are just very healthy kids. They have hardly ever in their whole lives been to the doctor because of sickness. It is said that the longer you breastfeed the better. My doctor has always told me any is better than none. There are things found in the mothers breast milk that will help protect the baby. There is one claim I proved is not always true. I was told that if you are breastfeeding your baby and that baby is exposed to chicken pox, the baby will not get them. Mine did. Covered from head to toe. Only a child a mother could love.

Absolute fallacy. Breast or bottle, both provide nutrients the infant requires, but neither provides the genetics it takes to dictate the level of intelligence the child will have.
Bottle fed, I grew up able to start up, run and grow successfully a business of my own. I also held a BA Degree position for 8 years and later became CEO/President of an international hi-tech software developer/training facility.
I have grade and high school, college and University education. As well I am in the process of completing my Masters in Fine Art.
I guess it's not bad for someone who really should be considered "slow" "challenged" etc.
Good luck with this "Professional", I think you'll need it. Maybe a change would be good.

Breastfeeding is good for the baby, of course. However, formula also has all essential vitamins for the baby and I'm sure you are gradually adding foods like cereal, fruits and veggies. Heredity and environment also play strong roles in "how smart" your child will be. If you are really concerned about this try pumping and freezing breast milk to give yourself more freedom and convenience. My children were not breastfed and appear to be doing just fine--but I did feel pressured by my pediatrician, media, and family members to not bottle feed. And I really can't imagine breast feeding a two year old. OUCH. (No offense to you great mommas that have done so!!)

No, I think you breastfeeding for 6 months is better than no breastfeeding at all. And I sometimes wonder how true the studies are, Are breastfed kids really smarter than formula kids?? I don't know? I give you credit for doing it that long, it's a lot of work.

Whatever "professional" told you that, um, they are an idiot!! If that was the advice from your doctor, please get another doctor with a quickness!!!
lots of women breastfeed and lots dont for whatever reasons. My kids were only brestfed until they got teeth!!!(ouch) and they are all quite smart! My 10 year old even recieved an academic achievement award from the president of the united states! she was only breatfed until about 5 months. My 13 year old son is an honor roll student and will be starting high school in the fall!(breastfed for 6 months)
so, please just do what you think is best, and ignore all the stupid people!!!!

To be honest newbord children -need- to be brestfed only once in order to recieve antibodies from the mother so that they do not suffer from early childhood diseases. If a child is never breastfed they are more likely to grow up with physical problems as due to having a less effective immune system.
6 months is plenty.

my son was only breastfed for 1 week when he was born and he is ahead of all the children in his preschool class and he talks like a little adult...lol ...my sisters son was breastfed for 2 and half years and he is 6 now and he is lucky if he can actually put his shoes on the right feet for the day...i think it has more to do with parental interaction with the child from birth to age 4 than breast milk.....

That's just crazy talk. There are plenty of really smart kids that have never had breast milk. Besides, once they start getting teeth breastfeeding might not be worth one or two IQ points, you know?
Now I have to say that most doctors recommend at least six months of breast feeding because breast milk has the most balanced and easily digested nutrients for baby and is full of mom's antibodies which help protect children from infection.

No she isn't... plenty of children grow up on formula their whole lives and there is nothing wrong with them.
Breastmilk provides essential vitimans that the child benefits from, it does *not* determine how smart a child will be. It has more to do with stimulation and interaction with parents and people from an early age.
You did well to breastfeed for 6 months so don't worry about it =o)
