well welcome to the US because here its the love that counts and not the $ sign. Find a good quality with style and think about your partner and what she likes as long as you can afford it without putting a strain on your living expenses and if your partner has a commitment to you it will be perfect .But in the long run its the commitment from each other that counts.
My ring cost 197.00 and I,ve wore it daily for 16 years and his still here beside me. He has got me a number of rings over the years that I wear but the 197.00 ring is still on my finger!

As an expression of love and commitment and something that represents a future together as partners, putting a price estimate on an engagement ring should be based on purchasing the ring that best represents your love for your soon to be fiance. That ring could cost $1000 or it could cost $8000, it isn't the price, its the thought that is put into choosing a symbol of love and togetherness that best represents the two of you.

You'll know, when you see it, it will always be the one your eye goes back to over and over, it's the one that regardless of all the others that you may look at, is the one that all others are judged against, and just never seem to be good enough.

Use your heart felt intuition...it will lead you to pick out the ring that is THE ring. Likely, it will be approx. 3 months salary. Btw, this is sometimes the gauge that is used to purchase such a ring (monthly salary x 3 = purchase price range)

All the best for a happy future.

No offense to you, but I am so tired of seeing the "how much should I spend on the ring" questions. The cost shouldn't matter. It's the meaning behind it that's important. Either together with your potential spouse or by yourself, decide what kind of ring you want to get. Solitaire, multi-stone, white gold, yellow gold, platinum, etc. Look at rings that are styled accordingly to what you and/or her prefer and then pick a budget based on what you've seen. If you (or she) become absolutely "sold" on a particular ring, then get it. But don't go too overboard and break the "piggy bank". Good Luck.

The choice of ring shouldn't be a certain amount (unless it's more than can be reasonably afforded). The choice should be in the design and how much the bride to be likes it. Mine only cost $500.00 and was bought at a pawn shop. My husband didn't want me to have a ring that came from a pawn shop, but I looked in lots of stores, on-line, and in magazines, and that one was my favorite. I've not had it appraised, but I don't think the clarity is great, but I liked it much more than any others. It also fit perfectly when I tried it on.

The common rule of thumb states wedding rings should cost about 3 months of the groom's salary. A ring or lesser value will look cheap and noncommited, spending more will look ostentatious.

I think the price isnt important as the thought of picking it out. Its suppose to mean a lifetime together, so picking something out from the heart will mean alot more than how much it costs.

How about you go with something you like instead of being concerned over the cost? It has WAY more meaning than the dollar amount, which you should realize...

One rule of thumb is "3 months pay", but that is just for the one person. $6,000 is a little expensive. You can get a very nice ring for half that.
