I'm not saying it's bad because some of the nicest people I have ever known were wiccan. But I've noticed a lot of teenagers asking about it and saying they are wiccan. Do you have any idea why ?

Teens are curious about it because it hints of power, magic, and mystery. The teen years are a time of exploration, of finding one's own identity, and many teens would love to be powerful and mysterious, and have secret knowledge, and be feared or admired or both by their friends & family. So they look to witchcraft, because it's gotten more available, to find out if it can give them those things.

It can...if they're willing to work for it. Most of them aren't. However, in their zeal to publish books to whatever market will pay, a lot of authors have written "13 Easy Steps To Become A Witch" books--so teens read those (or a couple of websites), and announce themselves "A Wiccan" or "A Witch"--as if taking on the name will give them the poise and wisdom and power they associate with the label.

It's not exactly a bad thing, except that it often annoys the very people that could help them reach their goals. Most of them will treat it like a fad, go on to other things in a few years, and hopefully have some tolerance for it when they meet a real, life-long Wiccan at work ten years later.

I think a lot of teen are interested in it because it's a very open and accepting religion. The creeds are simple and straightforward (harm nothing, all actions will come back to you threefold, etc.), and much of the religion is about self-empowerment, something a lot of teens could use more of.

It doesn't have the same strict belief structures as many mainstream religions, so it's easier to find a niche where you fit in. It's also not pushy or damning.

There's more emphasis on doing good things than on not doing bad things (or at least things that considered bad in many mainstream religions - being gay, sex, non-conformist thought), and although the word "magic" is bandied about a lot, Wiccan magic is more about helping the person to find peace and realize thier own hopes and dreams thatn it is about turning flowers into bunnies or making love spells or voodoo dolls.

Because they don't have anyone to give them any answers. When I was in high school, some of my friends were Wiccan, and they seemed to really like it because it gave them answers about how to deal with people and situations. By using their magic or spells, they could solve a problem. I'm not saying Wicca is wrong, but I do think that teenagers like it because it gives them easy answers to difficult problems.

Teens are no different than adults when it come to wanting to belong.More and more the family unit is being broke down.Kids tend to suffer from a sense of being alone. That's because they are.If they get into a club, gang,or a religious group they have a feeling that they are a part of something.Wicca is something that fills a void to start with. Then it becomes a way of life. For some it may even be a calling. It's not evil it's peaceful.

It's the work of the "god of this world" who is the devil. Wiccans don't think that they worship the devil because they don't believe in the devil. But any time someone seeks power from the spirit realm apart from God, whether they know it or not they are courting demonic and devilish powers.

The "god of this world" has his minions in the television and movie industry. They put shows on TV making witchkraft seem fun and exciting. They put out movies like the Harry Potter series that seem harmless enough but they you go to the web sites and they have links to Wicca sites and information.

It's all part of the evil one's scheme to supplant God in the hearts of men here on earth so that he can continue to seek to gain vengeance on the Almighty by hurting those whom He has created in his image.

1 Timothy 4:1-2 Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, 2 through the insincerity of liars whose consciences are seared,

Teenagers tend to be more open minded and accepting of things that are different than adults. Also, with each generation, we seem to be getting more tolerant. Besides, when there is Wicca, why would you want to choose Christianity? Anyone that truly knows about it would probably choose Wicca.

Edit: Man, the ignorance of some people is depressing!

Because they're tired of people thinking they should find someone to give them answers and they want to discover what works for them. I hold that belief in the utmost respect. Many are children of hard-core Christian parents who try to force beliefs on them and they choose to reject it. Also, environmentalism is becoming mroe popular and Wicca is nature-based, nature-worshipping. That is why I looked at it for a while. Also, it is just a beautiful religion. It is not saying that the divine rule us, but that they treat us with care like parents, and we should treat them with love like a child with his parents. It is not God-fearing, but God-loving, god-appreciating. That is much more appealing and realy rings true to some people. Liebe und Frieden.

It's the latest trend for teens. You know teenage rebellion and all that about searching for answers, gotta be different than their parents.

A lot of the kids now had parents who have no faith at all so they are open to anything that comes along or is popular.

I don't think that it's only teenagers getting into this, I think that it is people in general who have realized that it is not satanism in any way and that it is older than Christianity and by being Christian, you are also Pagan because most of the Christian beliefs stem from Paganism.

Some probably because they don't really know what it's about and they think that it's like what they show on Charmed or Buffy or The Craft.

Some probably because they think it will freak out their friends or parents and somehow make them "cool".

Some probably because they want the power that they think comes with spellwork.

Some probably because the path truly does speak to them and it resonates with them.
