There are meetings that are called Al-Anon...it is for family members, etc that live with alcoholics and how to cope with it. Please go.......that is a great start, as you will meet others going thru the same set of circumstances as yourself and everyone providing support to one another.

My father was an alcoholic. I was very young when he stopped drinking . I remember my mother loading my brothers and me into the car and waiting in front of a bar for a long time waiting for my father to come out.

It's not an easy thing to deal with. The best thing that I can suggest is counseling. Support the person. Show them that you love them and care about them. Don't nag at them about their problem . They know they have a problem but they are not willing to admit it. sometimes, it takes a disaster to make them realize that they need to stop.

My sister was! It is the most difficult problem to deal with...after a drug problem, that is. I dealt with this problem for various years. I don't think it was worth it! Alcoholics, like drug users, don't care what you go through to help them. They are mindless! Just send them to any agency that will help them, but don't go overboard to help them...you will lose and affect other family members! She stopped when she got sick enough to stop.

let them go..make there on mistakes & deal with them alone..if they pass out somewhere don't move them...clean up there own messes...they have to find there own bottom to get better. example : this lady drank all day long & she always wore 1 white glove & carried the other. One day she forgot the 1 glove & realized she had a problem & stopped drinking ,for her that was her bottom[true story] everyone is different.it can be something as little as that or worse. I suggest u go to allnon.best wishes to u .

Yes...and I dont think I'm dealing with it very well . I guess it depends on how bad the situation is and how far you are willing to go with that person into their sickness. Overall--if they dont want help or are not ready, not much can help but I continue to pray .

my mother is a recovering alcoholic, as well as my uncle and my mom's friend. They all go to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. Try to get them to go to a meeting or call a phone help line for better ideas.
