Scott A,

Come on!
If it were your 21st birthday bash,
wouldn't you like to receive a gift.
It need not be expensive, but
something thoughtful.

So, get up, and go get something!

Have a great party!

If you know the person, sure buy them a gift and card. If you're invited to hang out with a friend of a friend's birthday; simply just bring a birthday card and perhaps buy them a drink.

Of course you should get a gift!! It is a very significant birthday for this person and any other 21 year old!! A bottle of liquor is the most common gift, it you are old enough to get it, but you should bring a gift to any birthday party you attend, even if it's money!! Good luck and have fun!!

A token gift is always appropriate. Keep it inexpensive and opt for something unique. Perhaps even a "gag" gift associated with the legal drinking age would work. Examples: a weird church key, a satin or leather bag with a few quarters to call a cab in case of over-indulgence, a special holder for the "adult" ID, calling cards that say, "Yes, I'm legal".

I think, unless it specifies NO GIFTS, then yes, usually you do take a gift to a birthday party. If you don't like the person enough to get a gift, just skip the party... or take a gift card along and keep it tucked away in your pocket, just in case....

take balloons! 21 balloons!
with a smile,

Why in the world would you think you should not take a gift? Come on... of course, you should. Make it something nice, it doesn't have to cost a lot of money.

You may get her a card and a small gift. Nothing expensive, but it is the thought that counts.

If it is the typical beer focused b-day bash then don't worry about it, bring some beer or shot glasses and you'll be all good.
Have fun.
