If you have black people's hair then you will have difficulty keeping it straight if it is not chemically relaxed. If the hair is not chemically altered it will nap and kink right back up when the natural elements get a hold to it (any type of summer heat, wind, rain, humidity. . .).

There are detailed relaxers on hand for humans with very thick or curly hair. Specialised hairdressers sell them. Ask around to your discipline and i'm sure you'll to find some. It can be unsafe for hair tho - it's like a perm in reverse however the chemical compounds used are very strong.

you need a really good shampoo and conditioner, it makes a big difference. redken makes a good shampoo for fighting frizz. also nuetragena triple moist products are good.
stay away from clarifying, baby , daily and dandruff shampoos. they remove to much oil and make your hair real light feeling.
after you wash your hair, use john frieda's spotlight or which ever one goes with your hair color, it is an oily product. you only use one drop literally, don't use more or your hair willbe oily.
dry your hair and then you have to use a straightening iron. that is the only way to get it straight. you can have it relaxed but it may cost you.

That's something most sista's deal with daily, especially now that its hot and humid. I go to the salon, and between visits I use a flat iron.
Braiding is always an option.
