I ask this question because in '03 members of my class reunion did not want to honor someone's death because he had committed suicide. Some said he was a coward. I felt we should because he died and the circumstances behind his death were not relevant in my eyes. My little brother committed suicide last year, he walked about 6 city blocks with no shirt on in Feb (Chicago Feb) and he jumped into the river. I think how I believe I wouldn't have gotten that far. I feel he had 'courage' (maybe wrong term) to know what he was doing and carry it out. I was thinking of him today and just wanted to know what other people thought.
Twinprankster & Someone I did not intend to offend.
All those who have life experiences I cherish your input and hope you can workout any problems you have.
Once again thank you all for your input.

My Aunt who killed herself. I was very ticked off at her for hurting my Family the way she did. but as time went on. my anger stopped. I guess my Aunt Just wasn't thinking clear.
I think people who commit suicide are Just in so much pain. and Just want to stop their pain. so I guess I don't really know. you never know what the reason for suicide but I think if you can work through your problums it will make you stronger.
To anyone thinking about suicide PLEASE don't do it. It is a pain that your Family will never get over. so please what ever the problum is TALK it out it can't be that bad. Take Care Everyone.

Don't try to make a judgement call on someone who has commited or tried to commit suicide. They are neither courageous or cowardly. It's usually a series of traumatic events, not just one paticular thing, that makes a person feel like it wouldn't matter if they were here any longer. They feel overwhelmed with life and are in a lot of pain. It's a dark place & a sad one. Studies show that people that commit suicide usually have above average intelligence. They just feel as though their problems will never get better.

I would say they are neither of courageous nor cowardess. They have alot of problems that seem hopeless and life becomes pointless to them...
That doesnt make them horridle people, just depressed and quite sad. I wouldn't say those whom kill themselves are courageous because they did it. In fact that has absoultely nothing to do with courage---not in the least! Its something that alot of teenagers and abults alike face everyday. They even go as far as trying to end it all and fail. That is sad but when they succeed its even more sad. I hope that anyone facing this dilema will go out on a ledge and ask for some help. There is no point in ending ur life because of feelings of hoplessness

It's not fair for ANY of us to decide what one's motvations or intents were if they kill themselves or if they were a hero or a coward. None of knows what issues were involved. Some people do this because they just can't deal with their issue anymore. Some see it as an escape from an intolerable condition or circumstance.
I'm bipolar and have had many suicidal ideations. Suicide looked good many times because I didn't want anyone to have to be around me or worry about my inner thoughts or feelings anymore.
Suicide was a way for me not to have to interact with people or worry about hurting someone or their feelings. Yeah, it's a permanent fix to something that can usually be worked out, but unfortunately some folks are just too low or can't get the right help to see their way out.

Neither! They are helpless mentally ill individuals that feel they cannot handle the alternatives at that point in time. A normal person's brain tells them Not to do such a thing, I'm sure everyones thought god I wish I could die right now. A mentally stable person gets over it though, someone with a chemical inbalance or mental illness cannot fathom moving on to the next stage in life. There fore they do what is best for them. Its a selfish thing to do, but people do selfish things all the time. Ultimately you've gotta make yourself happy!

Neither. They are mostly like suffering from a mental disorder, a traumatic life event, etc. Anyone who commits suicide is suffering an agonizing existence that unfortunately could have probably been helped by a doctor, friend, or family member if they had known or paid attention.

I have been on both sides of the fence. My 10 year old daughters father commited suicide when she was 14 months old. I was the scapegoat for his entire family. I had "booted" him out 3 months earlier, because I found illegal drugs in his coat. I, personally, have attempted suicide at least 10x. I can not and will not place labels on people who commit suicide. I can only pray for their soul and hope they find peace.

1. Do you know anything about these people?
2. I'm guessing no and that you're just some creep that doesn't have any problems.
3. They are neither. They are just people who were hurting very badly

people who claim that those of us who have attempted suicide are cowards are ignorant. they have not been there, and they do not understand depression and the pain of it and the utter hopelessness you feel. so i think that the only people qualified to answer this question are the people who have been there because anyone else doesn't know jack.
