I have always had a hard time concentrating. I managed to graduate with a BA and high GPA. However, it was an easy major so it wasn't hard to be a "shining star." However, when I went to law school, I was overwhelmed. I graduated at the bottom of my class and had a hard time concentrating in class. Any complex writing was always really difficult for me. My mind would wander and in lecutures I would want to just go home and hide under the covers. I didn't pass the CA bar exam- even after really trying to study hard. I grew up in a home where we didn't go to the doctor unless it was a 911 emergency. I have always had friends who told me that they thought I was ADD/ADHD. I was wondering if anyone ever took Adderall or Ritalin and what there experience was. Do they help you study? PLEASE ONLY REAL ANSWERS.

Also: I have never been to a counselor/psychiatrist, etc. I recently got insurance and could have never afforded to see a doc in the past.

THANKS!

When I first received my ADHD diagnosis three years ago, I started out on Adderall XL. It certainly had effects on me. On the positive side, I had an improved attitude towards things and I loss about 40 pounds from the appetite suppressant (which was a good thing at my weight). However, it seriously activated an OCD of mine where I would take things apart to clean the insides, with mixed results of later functionality. I also stayed up very late, working hours on cleaning in my kitchen. I had to be taken off of it after I developed a twitch in my eye.

Now I'm on Strattera. It's been reasonably effective, although I gained my weight back. However, I'm not wired with my OCD like I was under Adderall.

Everyone is going to have a different reaction. It's a matter of experimenting with which medication is best for you. However, this should only be done under a psychiatrist's supervision.

Good luck in whatever treatment you will be getting.

My daughter was diagnosed with ADD and ODD. We tried ritalin, but the two-doses-a-day meant by the afternoon, it got missed.

We tried ADDeral and we hated it.

It wired her up so badly, she could not focus at all. It was better without it (we tested this on a Saturday, so we had better control over the situation.)

We settled on Concerta, which helped, but there was a limit to how effective it was.

We stopped it with a month left in school and observed her over the summer. (A side effect of Concerta is that it suppresses the appetite and she was looking very anorexic)

When she entered the school year (at a new school) we did not restar her and decided that the teacher would tell us if she was out of control. Nothing that they couldn't handle, so we took her off the medication.

I was diagnosed w/ADD 5 yrs ago and have been taking a combination of Adderall 20mg and Strattera (non-stimulant) at 60mg. This is what works for me.
After 3 months of trial and error and different drugs, my practitoner and I settled on this dose for me.
The only side effect I have is dry mouth, which I take care of with different products on the market out there.

You can start by calling your local hospitals' mental health or psychology dept and perhaps they can refer you to a doctor or nurse practitioner that treats only this condition.
A PCP doesn't have enough training in this area to treat you effectively.

Age early 20s I drank alot through middle college then hit severe college and changed into smoking alot of weed. Ended up going into cocain for awhile. i do no longer be apologetic about doing any of the medication, notwithstanding i do be apologetic about smoking cigarettes and the criminal subject matters that arose the following and there. I discovered alot and that i recommend ALOT about many diverse issues for the time of my drug making use of and does no longer commerce in that understanding for some thing. sparkling and sober now 3 years. experimenting is one component, transforming into a drug consumer is yet another.

I took it for about 2 months at the maximum dosage and it had absolutely no effect on me. I dont think its worth it...the name Adderall is the brand name...the drug name is...AMPHETAMINE
So basicly its legal street drugs. Its not worth the side effects and the long term effects.
