On my way home from work today with my kids, my spouse and I noticed a cat laying on the road a few blocks from our home. We slowed to see if it was still alive or not and it was half gone, its eyes were NOT in it's head and my spouse noticed it was our cat. She is an indoor cat and with it being so hot, the kids must have left the door open. Anyhow, it is nuts to me that someone would hit an animal in a residential neighbourhood or anywhere for that matter, and not stop to see if it's ok, or try to get it to a vet. My question is this, if YOU were to hit a cat, an animal, would you stop or would you just keep going? This is unbelievable to me that my cat was lying in the road , slowly dying and noone stopped to help her. How many people drove by and saw her and did nothing? So what would you do?

I live in a small community up here of only about 25 families. Only one road up , same road down. Speed limit is a responsible one and everyone up here follows it. Figure they must have at least noticed in their rear-view. Anyhow, likely its probably one of my neighbours. Would not have expected anyone to foot the bill though, truly it's our fault she got out, it happens but would have had a lot of respect for a person who at least tried. It wasn't their fault either but the choice to keep driving was sick.

YES I would stop and try to find the owner...I would be devastated!
This happened to me once my cat ran out and got hit the people did stop and I held her as she died...crying in the street!
At least I had a few last moments with her... they guy that hit her was crying too! After he helped me get up with her and out of the street he drove off.
PEOPLE MUST STOP hitting anything and driving off is a HIT AND RUN!
It is illegal! in some places it should be everywhere.

First of all, I am so sorry for your loss. Have been through this a time or two.

I would have stopped and made an attempt to find the owner. My family thinks I'm nuts, but I carry a small shovel in the back of my car and whenever there is any animal on the road and it is safe to do so, I get it to the side of the road if it is a cat, call the cops if it was a dog, and off the road if it was a rabbit or some other wild thing.

If it is any comfort, it sounds like it was an instant death and your poor cat never knew what hit her.

I am very sorry to hear about your kitty. This really saddens me, as I am a cat-lover, through & through. I have 4 indoor cats, and I was just adopted recently by a few out door feral cats!

Anyways, in NY state, I know its against the law not to report a hit animal, and YES, I would definitely stop if I hit an animal, and even call 911 about the incident, its only humane.

I can't say that I would have taken it to the vet, but I would have stopped to see if it was savable. I imagine the person had no idea it was your cat and never thought twice.
My father once hit a person's dog and he stopped and carried the dog to the nearest house and it happened to be their dog. Anyhow, they subsequently sued him for the price of the dog and it's vet bills (even though it died, they had done $17,000 worth of surgery) and won. I personally found it to be disgusting because he did what he thought was best. I have been in a situation where that an animal could have gotten hit.... I know it's really hard in some case to prevent.
I'm sorry to hear that you had to see her on the road, it isn't always easy to see. I know that you can move on. My condolences to your children. Best wishes

I'm sorry about your cat. The sick truth is that many people would never considering stopping, and even worse there are those that will speed up just to hit a cat! It would be nice if people realized that God gave us these animals, and everytime we beat or kill them we need to think about how many people will be hurt because of your actions. I would've stopped for sure, and I've actually stopped many times.

I would stop! I am sorry for your loss. It is terrible that some people don't think twice about running over animals. Our pets are like family members to the owner. We have hit and killed a cat before. We stopped and the owners new it was dead. They had small kids and so we took it to dispose of it before the little ones saw it dead. I cried for days after wards. I don't like cats necessarily but I don't like killing any animal.

BASTARDS!!!!!! I'm so sorry that happened to you and that you had to be the one to stop to see if it was okay and to find it's your cat, I would stop totally espically if it was an animal that seemed like a family animal. Once I hit a racoon and turned around to check on the poor guy of course I won't say what I had to do once I checked on it, but I couldn't see myself not stopping to check on a cat.

I would stop. No matter what. I hat eto see animals suffer. Di your cat have a collar? If I found one without a tag in the middle of the road I would nurse it back to health then put up posters. I hope she is ok!
