I speak Arabic, and Philistine is the Arabic pronounciation of Palestine. And also I dont think that Israel in biblical terms is the same as modern day Israel. Israel the country was founded after WWII, as sort of a place to put all the Jews that were rescued from the Germans. Thats why the Palestinians today want their land back -- the land that was taken to form Israel was originally the Palestinians'.

Modern day Palestinians are actually descended mostly from Jordanians. However your question does point out an interesting theory that the Jews of today are fighting those peoples and tribes they defeated in Biblical Times. The Jebusites, the Philistines etc etc

A Philistine in Old Testament terms was a pagan inhabitant of the southwestern coastal cities of Canaan, such as Gaza. The Philistines were the neighbors and enemies of the Hebrews. The word came from Hebrew pelishtim, the people of 'Pelesheth' ('Philistia'). The word Philister (Luther's translation) was taken up in German student slang, supposedly first in Jena in the late 17th century, as a dismissive term for the townspeople (compare the British university slang, 'townies,') It is said that at a memorial service for a student killed in a town-gown clash, the minister took for his text the words of Delilah to Samson,'The Philistines be upon thee, Samson!'

Why can't the Jews accept that Rome owns all of the Middle East and Europe? Tidus sacked Jerusalem, after all. :)
Times change. The bible is a dandy ancient history book, but it doesn't have any predictions unless stated. If something happened and God didn't say "HEY! This is happening again so you mother ***** better watch out!" then I think it's a fair bet we don't have to look something up everytime relations go sour in the Middle East.

No, the Phillistines in the Bible were a barbaric tribe that inhabited the souther coast of Canaan... a.k.a. - The Promised Land, to the Hebrews.
This has really nothing to do with Palestine, or Israel, in today's modern age. ^_^ It was a good attempt, though -- I can see the similiarities in the names.

Yes. God gave the land to the Jewish people it belongs to them. The name was changed to Philistine later when it was taken over by the Philistines.

It is the same geographical land, but the people in the Bible are different; they were not Arabs.
A large Arab population came only with the rise of Islam in the 7th century.
