You CAN live like this until it gets treated! I did for three years. (My son died and I had bilateral breast cancer during that time, and in the end, it was the boils and infections that made me want to give up!)
I do not have the names of the drugs that stopped it, but I can find out, so email me. Do you use the bactroban nasally? (That's where staph lives.)
Oh, it was two antibiotics, neither of which was vanco. You must have had cultures done, right?
Anyway it can be treated, and you have to hang on, do your research, and then start proving to your docs that you know what you need, or find different docs. I had a family doc and several oncologists, several admissions for treatment of big, deep abscesses, and it wasn't until I got to the infectious disease guy that I was treated properly!
Haven't had so much as a large pimple since December.
Hang in there.

You need to get in with an Infectious Disease Specialist. They deal with MRSA infections all the time. Sounds to me as if you need long term antibiotics..
I don't know what kind of surgery you had.. hopefully it was not bone surgery, as sometimes bones can keep infections in them for long periods of time. It is your right to get a second opinion, and a different treatment, don't stick to what hasn't been working.
Cleveland Clinic, Mayo Clinic, Mass General.. They are all specialty places... Go get some help with someone who is a specialist.

It sounds like your bug is hiding internally somewhere. Or, they're not cleaning out all the infected areas when you've had surgery on your abcesses. Whatever it is, all the cleansing you're doing isn't reaching the nasty beastie. It sounds to me like you'll need another power drug; speak to your doctors and see if they don't have an alternative to the sulfa antibiotic. Best wishes, hon; you'll be in my thoughts.

I would suggest that you make an appointment at a major medical center with an infectious control specialist.Duke University Medical Center is world renown and is located in Durham North Carolina. And yes you are right you probably picked up this germ at your local hospital. Good Luck

Get a new Infectious Disease doctor and dont give up...go to a different hospital, even if you have to travel to a reputable hospital, and take all your medical records with you...you can get copies of everything at the hospital you were treated at. Good Luck!!
