Establish a bedtime routine. Give her a bath, maybe before bed snack, and then read her a story. Do the same thing every night, after a couple of weeks when you say it is bath time she will already know what comes next. Children need structure and routine. Good luck, I hope I have helped.

well for one thing you have to start the winding down process.
first of all always put the child to bed at the same time. i know it is hard but don't let anything get in the way of this.
stop all liquids about two 1/2 hours before bed.
about an hour before bed make sure they go potty.
then about 45 minutes before. give them a warm bath, let them play a little. put on jammies.
dim all the lights and turn the tv down a little. everyone in the house has to start slowing down, talking quieter, and relaxing.
about 10 mins. before bed have the child go potty again then let them pick out a book.
lay them in the bed and read the book.
always kiss them good night and say i love you.
you can try a sound machine on low with some white noise. it really helps.
it may take a while to get into the routine but stick with it. it takes seven days to make a habit. you will notice that your child will start getting tired around the new bed time.
don't let them watch tv or listen to a radio it will only keep them awake longer.
i wish you the best of luck. i always had a bedtime routine and it worked great.

By the 'right time', I would assume you mean sometime between 7p and 8p. Does your child take a nap? If so, perhaps the nap is too late in the day. My kids (and now grandkids) take a nap around 11a to about 1p. By the time 6p or 7p rolls around, they are more than ready to go to sleep.
Do you have an evening routine? You know, eat dinner, play a bit, take a relaxing bath (this always works), have a snack, then off to bed!!! Try this in addition to an earlier nap time, it will work.
Good Luck to you!!

It's hard to get kids to go to bed in summer because it stays light out so much later. My daughter used to say "not dark out yet" when I said "Time for bed." So I just let her stay up later in summer. One evening we went bowling (no windows) and when I said "time to go home and get ready for bed", she automatically said "not dark out".
Anyways, if your child absolutely needs to go to bed at the usual time because you have to get her up for daycare or something, then try buying a shade to put over her window to make it darker in the bedroom. Also the bathtime and ritual things are good too. But don't medicate your child please. Oh and maybe it is time to do away with the naps if he/she still takes them.

my parents had the same problem when i was a kid, i was too hyper and never took my naps, never wanted to go to sleep, always jumping up and down, so they found the only solution. they sent me to a day camp, i would come home every day dead tired, had my little early dinner and slept like teddy bear until next morning.

How about medication.
Or tire him out before bed. Take him for a walk or something. Make him run laps. lol.

Sometimes it helps to give them a warm bath just before bed time.
