Colorblind doesn't mean you can't see color at all. It means you can't distinguish certain colors, like red and green.
Tests for colorblindness are quite objective and straightforward. If three doctors say you are colorblind, you're definitely colorblind. Remember, if you are colorblind, you're not objective enough to judge that you are not. It may be that it is subtle enough that you don't run into it on an everyday basis. There are mild forms of colorblindness that basically only clearly show up on tests designed to test for them.
If you're having such a problem "seeing" your colorblindness, it probably has virtually no material impact on your life. There is nothing you can do about it anyway except let your spouse pick out your clothes. Oh, and remember, the green light is on the bottom, and the red light on the top. :-) (And be very, very careful approaching flashing one-color lights.)

Ok, you can see colors, just that you don't see the same colors as others. My son for example.. I took him to the eye doctor, and she said "not only is he colorblind, he is good colorblind". I asked her to explain and she said "well, you might show him a green picture, and you know it is green, but he is seeing a brown picture". It explained a lot as he was growing up... like matching clothes and all. I would say "that is blue", he would argue that it is black. He has accepted it now, and he trusts us when we say "that doesn't match". It is no big deal, you just can never be an electrician or an airplane mechanic. The way the doctor explained it to me was if it was a color by itself, he does ok, but, if it is laying next to another color, is when he cannot see the right color. That is how I understood it.

Colourblindness is more common in men than in women. This is funny since it's the mother's genes that pass it down.
When I was in high school (grade 10 science class), there were colour blind test charts in our text book. That's how we found out one of our classmates was colourblind. He didn't even know until then.
Many live with colourblindness and not even know they have it. Some cases are so minor that it's never diagnosed. Many can go years (like into adulthood) before it's discovered. But by then you're so used to seeing things a certain way that that's just the way it is.
It's easy to go through life with colourblindness. They even have tinted glasses that can help the really drastic cases of colourblindness.

of the colorblind people i have met, they say they only can see different color grays, they cannot determine what color the traffic lights are, the red, green, and yellow look the same color gray. so they have to see which light is lit, and remember what order the traffic light colors are.
as for the doctors, i don't know,
i hope this helps you with a little info i know of.

There are different kinds of color blind, the most common is red/green colorblindness. Color blindness does not mean you can't see any colors, just that certain colors look different to you.

Being colorblind does not necessarily mean you cant see color at all. It just means that you cannot distinguish colors that are close in shade such as navy blue and black, different shades of the same color such as violet and blue and so forth.
