I have a lab chow mix, she is white, actually ginger color (her name is Ginger, too). She is 12 years old, going on 13 this fall. She is so full of personality, but yes, she does whine a lot. She thinks she's a human, when her hips were still good she used to jump up on a chair and "talk" to me in the mornings, just go "raaarrrrrrrrararrarr". I'd ask her, "would you like a cup of coffee?". She would have probably went for it if she had thumbs. (By the way, I suggest making sure you give your dogs treats or food containing glucosamine chondroiton, labs are prone to hip problems and it has really helped Ginger.) She is extremely intelligent, she knows many words including lake, swim, beach, leash, walk, go, ride, truck, treat, outside......and when she hears any of the first words listed she is up and barking, ready to walk to the lake for a swim. She just loves the water. She also knows the word bath though, and that one makes her hide. She follows me wherever I go, when I do dishes, she lays on the floor behind me. If I go to the bathroom, she laying outside the door when I come out. She sleeps at the side of my bed and lays on her rug on the floor while I'm on the computer. Shes an old girl now, she's past the life expectancy of her breed and I don't even want to think of how lonely this house will be without her. They are great dogs, great friends.

I had one she was a big baby. don't remember her whining a lot though she was an outside dog. I had her when i was around 12 or 13. it was funny she though she was a lap dog. my parents made me get rid of her because she kept on getting preg. and we didn't have the money to get her spayed.
