I am looking to start attending church but would like your opinions on what denomination is right for me. I am looking for a denomination with a very openminded view of the bible(i.e. no Bible bashers who take every word of the Bible literally. Of course of main importance is that they preech that Jesus lived and died for our sins and that the 10 commandments are from God. I am a good person and want to be around good people at Church, but no ultra conservative people who go around damning non-Christians, for they tend to be the ones with great hate in their hearts. I'd like a friendly upbeat liberal denomination where I can meet good people, ideas? Thanks!

"Though we may not think alike, may we not all love alike?" Think I'll try Methodist first, thanks for those with helpful answers.

Sounds like you might want to look into the Catholic faith.
Catholics:
- Do not take every word of the Bible literally.
- Preach that Jesus lived and died for our sins.
- Preach that the Ten Commandments are from God.
- Do not damn non-Christians.
Contact your local parish and ask about information about their RCIA Inquiry group.
You can go and ask any questions you want.
This is the first step in RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) but you can stop at any time.
There is no obligation to become a Catholic.
With love and prayers in Christ.

Methodist churches are usually pretty good that way. You may want to check out Unity and Unitarian churches although they may be a little too liberal for you. And don't forget our Friends, the Quakers, still taking peace seriously after all these years. Shop around. Go to a different church every Sunday (and 7th Day Adventist on Saturday.) Meet people. Find out what they like about their church. Find out what kind of work they are doing that you would like to be involved in. Do they run a homeless shelter, are they feeding hungry people? Do they volunteer for Habitat for Humanity? Find a church that talks your kind of talk but also walks your kind of walk.

Well, if you want someone who doesn't take every Word of God literally and as truth, you probably don't want a church! But if you're just looking for a nice, not too in-your-face church, you may want to check out Vineyard churches or another seeker-sensitive church. But if you want the truth of God in a more powerful way, check out a Baptist, Assemblies of God, or Open Bible Church.

I attend a Nazarene church and find the people at my church extremely friendly and open minded, but it really depends not only on the denomination, but also on the people at the church. So, if I were you, I would definitely try a Nazarene church, and then just check out a couple of Protestant churches nearby.
Good luck!

So basically, you want a church that lets you pick and choose which parts of the Bible you feel like believing, and you want them to tell you that you're A-OK no matter what you do? Why bother going to church at all?

im glad you are looking to attend a church. we all should (Gods word)
spend some time with God about this and let Him lead you where He wants you to be...
while you are waiting, visit churches in your area. go to the same one a couple times before deciding to move on to the next one. talk to the pastors, members, etc.
good luck and God bless :)

A church is like a family and you need to find someplace that loves you and accepts you. do not believe in Denominations myself because it is something man created not God.
My best to you

The impression I'm getting is that you don't want a "church" where you'll hear regular Biblical truth and teaching, but where you'll meet lots of nice people to have lunch with.
Is that about it?
